I'm surprised they don't have a built in suppression system.

They do as its a mandatory requirement and it appears Ben may have reached back in to activate it and almost catching his feet on fire. They may miss a race or two now in the series as it takes time to build another new car.

I'm sure they do, and you can see Ben try to jump back in the car, I assume to turn the fuel pump off.

When the fire gets going that fast there's probably not much you can do other than saving yourself.

Embedding is nice but not a big deal.

And it's not hard. Just click the little film strip picture at the top of your reply box first before your paste
Crazy fire. Glad no one was hurt.

Now Hunter Reay spins on his own and tears up the rear of Viper. Vettes doing great with perfect driving and pit work.

Every track car I've seen has an external power kill switch.....not sure what happened on this vehicle.

Glad Ben looks to be ok,.....his feet might have blisters on them as he was standing in the fire for a few moments.

Porsche wins over Viper. Nothing new there but just glad GM was far behind at the end.

    I agree Mark.

I just read this was due to a drive shaft failure that ruptured the fuel line. Ben had less than a minute to get out of that thing. Makes me think I need to get a fire retardant suit and underwear.

If you track on a regular basis you absolutely need the suit and undies. We both bought very nice "breathable" suits from Stand 21 that were made to fit. I don't remember the proper coding but they are top rated fire retardant suits.

That is a wild way to catch fire . . . manufacturers' defect?

It is always a safer way to go with a fire suit and balaclava, etc. as I wear. But since you are not running wheel to wheel as compared to DE or solo at a safe pace it is just advised to wear the protection. Sparco make a great suit for the price BTW.

FWIW he did pull the fire suppression. You can see the burst cloud on the video.

Spoke with Tom Francis last weekend and work is progressing on rebuilding the car. Ben didn't think he would miss any races in the series.
