Just a quick question, is the install of a new battery really odd or just normal? unbolt the old one bolt the new one in and done kind of thing. Also should I stick with the OEM battery?

Nothing odd about it, but it will throw a code (P2610) that should go away in a couple of drive cycles.

Doesn't have to be the OEM battery, just make sure it is the OEM specs (size and terminal orientation).

Man it seems like everything has to be odd on the Gen 5 vipers haha. I was assuming it would be like rocket science taking that battery out. I’ll probably just do OEM so I don’t fuck anything up

Don't go OEM battery lol, I highly recommend looking at other options.

Easy clean swap in the trunk (did it in the parking lot). P2610 didn't pop up on mine.

Speirs, if you want I will be happy to talk you through this...from battery choices to tools. It is pretty straight forward...and, yes I have done several Gen V's. 317 402 9013. If you live near Indy, I'll change the battery for you if you like.

That's like America's hat, which is close enough for me.

Here's some light reading in the meantime:

https://odysseybattery.ca/product/performance-47-650/ Is this battery correct for our Gen V’s? Also I read my battery voltage off the SRT Pages and it’s reading 12.0 just 15 minutes after I shut it down

To me, a standard flooded lead acid battery has no place in a performance car...which rules out an OEM replacement as they leak acid.

Therefore, Absorbed Glass Mat(AGM) batteries are my choice though they are heavier and more expensive than OEM. That said, the above Odyssey 47-650 reference in the link by Steve M is a good choice...and, SHOULD fit a Gen V by my review of its dimensions. It has a 3 year full replacement warranty.

I have chosen Interstate MTZ-48 H6 for Gen V's which are slightly longer than the Odyssey mentioned above but still fits...and has a 4 year full replacement warranty. Also, here in Indy, I can get a replacement immediately from either of the two factory Interstate stores. Prices are about the same...with the Interstate being around $285.

The projected service life of these AGM batteries is 6 to 12 years as I recall...noting that I have AGM batteries made by Enersys-Odyssey in 3 Vipers that are now still going strong at 9-12 years of age.

Final note...racers go with the lightweight Lithium batteries as they save 35-40 lbs. Doug Shelby Engineering sells a great setup...not cheap..but still a GREAT setup !!

Update: with a lot of help from all you guys I got a new AGM battery installed, and the car starts perfectly. Little hint if you’re worried about your battery turn your car to accessories mode go to the SRT pages and read the battery voltage. My car was sitting between 11.8-12.0 which is not good enough especially for our huge motors lmao

Yea, your battery was dying. Voltage should have been mid to high 12s.

Glad you got t fixed up!

My battery always shows mid 14s during operation. That's on both the performance pages, and on dash.

I always drive with voltage, oil pressure, and tire pressure on the center dash.

With the engine running the alternator is providing voltage. Usually around 14.1-14.4 volts. With the engine off the battery by itself should read mid 12s.
