    ACR driving question

A question for ACR owners who drive them on the street: do you find it annoying to deal with the 5 point harness.

    Thanks

    Steve

Nope, I find it comfortable. I find the regular seatbelt annoying.

As a non-ACR owner,, the regular seat belt is definitely annoying as it tightens up under strong acceleration and pins you at the waist. I would much prefer a 5-point harness that stills pins you but doesn't squeeze you.

Only use the 5-point in both my cars. My wife even uses them on the passenger side. A, looks much cooler. B, feels like we are in race cars. C, people in other cars often comment "nice seat belts and car" at the stoplights.

Using the regular belt, IMO, would be like putting GTS shocks on the car with the softer springs. Why? Go buy a GTS then........

But I am weird that way. Its your money - you enjoy your car the best way you want....don't let us bully you

Hi Steve..... the seatbelt light does NOT come on if you decide not to use the standard belt.

Harnesses on the street look sweet until you drop something. Or need to get the mail. Or pay the car wash. Or on a hot day. Or need to get something from your pocket. Or die from a basilar skull fracture if you get in a wreck.

All of that is true with a regular seat belt in any Viper....LOL

To Bryan's point, the published data from safety experts in racing arenas do not consider wearing 5 or 6 point harnesses (instead of the car's standard 3 point belt) in street use to be a good idea....in fact, they generally think quite the opposite. Cervical spine injuries are among the listed negative outcomes.

My 5 point harness is expired, so I only use it looks. The few times I have used it while driving it around town were more frustrating because you have limited ability to move around.

Harness without a head an neck restraint system is not the greatest idea. Also renders the air bag system useless. You should not be wearing a harness on the street.

Seat belt laws in most States prohibit a race harness alone on public streets, requiring the factory OE Intertia-Reel belt be worn..... even WITH the 5/6pt !

I never used it. Too much of a hassle.

Can you simply bolt in a factory 3 point harness in place of the ACR 5 point?

If unmolested, the ACR should have both systems in place.

Ok, that makes sense. a car I'm looking at shows the 3 point on the drivers side and a 5 point on the passenger side in the pictures. Another picture shows what looks like a harness in the trunk. So perhaps the owner removed the 5 point on the drivers side and left the 3 point.

I just use the regular one, I put the shoulder harnesses behind the seat and hide the crotch portion under it. PITA putting it on during regular driving.

Steve, because an unused harness typically becomes a hindrance. Most owners tuck them behind and under the seat. So it’s very possible that a vehicle would appear to not have the five points, but actually does.

Thanks for the feed back. All good stuff. It took quite a while to get a response from the web seller. Says the car was sold a year ago. He had no idea why it was still showing up on the web. He didn't try to sell me another car, simply apologized for the screw up. That the end of that one. On to next.
