Opinions Gen 4 ACR or Gen 5 with ACR package

I own a 2010 convertible with aero package with the upgraded radio with sirius.
I am wanting to purchase an additional car, either a Gen-4 ACR or a 2016 with a ACR package.
If I get a Gen-4, I would like to change out the exhaust system to something that sounds more aggressive.
I'm not going to track it, just drive them around.
If the Gen-5, I would want something (GTC/ACR package?) with the ACR look, but with a premium sound system.

Any suggestion one way or the other?

I've had both, and there are pluses and minuses to them. The interior of the Gen V is much nicer, but I take that as a neutral because I really don't care about the interior. The Gen IV ACR was more fun to drive, even if it had a notchy transmission and a few less HP. The Gen V is much more comfortable - which appeals more to passengers than me. Also, the Gen V seems to have better build quality than the Gen IV. I'm guessing that the final year Gen V will hold its value better, but I wouldn't base a buying decision on that.

As far as the debate on whether a GTC model equipped with the ACR package is any different than the "actual" ACR, I take that with a grain of salt. The only difference seems to be a lesser quality stereo, less sound dampening, no hood pad, no trunk carpet, and a VIN number that identifies the car as an ACR. The GTC model will actually cost you less in insurance because it shows up on their system as a GTC - the ACR was a few hundred bucks a year more expensive to insure, although the coverage is exactly the same.

If you're not going to track it, keep an open mind to the TA 2.0 models. They're about 9/10ths of what an ACR can do, and some parts are much easier to find and less expensive. Just a thought - it's probably six one way and a half dozen the other way.

9/10ths is being generous, its more like 6 or 7/10ths. I'm surprised too at how little the downforce the TA 2.0 provides.

But since OP isnt tracking not sure whats wrong with getting a regular gen V and just putting front splitter and rear wing, like ACR-ISH did. But if he wants the real deal the ACR is the way to go.

On my 8th Viper, all Gens I-V. Love them all, they are all attention magnets! But I'm partial to the Gen Vs. Obviously a Gen IV ACR will be much less money wise, although they seem to be rising. The ACR-E is without a doubt the pinnacle of Vipers and most likely the most desirable. A GTC with the ACR-E option will give you a wider choice of colors and additional options if that is important. If you want and need a stereo the 3 speakers system definitely won't cut it. Mine has the Harmon 18 speaker option and it sounds great to me. The 12 speaker system isn't too bad either. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Gen V, any version.

Sounds like what you want is a TA 2.0 not an ACR or GTC-ACR.

My personal opinion is that you'd like the G5 over a G4-ACR as it's tamed down a bit. I daily drive my Gen5 GTS*. It's much more tame but still over the top exciting when pushed. The handling of the G5 is so much more controllable than the Gen4. The interior is light years ahead. Seats are better than Gen4 but really Gen 1/2 had by far the best seats.

I have both. I find the IV more engaging and exciting to drive. Definitely more raw. The V is more plush for sure and very well finished inside. I actually prefer the seats in the IV. Sound wise similar so you would have to consider exhaust work on either one. Sound system in the V (18 spkr ) is far superior to the IV but the IV can probably be improved without to much trouble

Two quite different cars and they will both deliver but with a different feel. Of course, the IV can be bought for a lot less. I think that the IV has stabilized price wise and you can probably expect that to hold its value versus some Vs that are still dropping.

Agree with the comments about TA 2.0 as a viable option. Looks much more aggressive than a base car, but without the cost of entry of the ACR. Plus, depending on how much you intend to drive it, the ACR may be too far "over the top" regarding how it looks. It really is race car that either belongs on the track or for those perfect Sunday morning drives. If you plan on driving it more than that, then a TA 1.0 or 2.0 car would be my choice.

I have had a Gen IV ACR, a Gen V TA 2.0, and a Gen V ACR-Extreme. The IV ACR was a blast to drive on the track, no nannies but very capable. The Gen V ACR-E is faster on track given more HP and better aero. Whether you prefer the looks of the Gen IV or the Gen V is a matter of personal preference. I originally did not care for the Gen V's looks but now I think it looks every bit like a super car. Fit and finish on the V is superior. Stereo on the V is waaaaaay better, at least with either the 12 or 18 speaker setup. The 3 speaker system that came with the ACRs with the indicator in the VIN sucks.

The interior finish on the V is much better than the IV and it has navigation and backup camera. However, the seats in the IV are better. I have to use a small pillow in the V to fill the void at your lower back or my back will start to hurt in very short order. Several complain about the seats while others love them.

The TA 2.0 is a very good option if you never track it or if you only track it once in a while. Very good looking car especially in Competition Blue. There is one listed on here in Comp Blue with black stripes and black wheels. Sharp looking car. The V ACR can be a little rougher on the road even with the shocks set full soft. You also have to be careful with the front splitter, it tends to rub on driveways and other imperfections.

Bottom line is that if you were to track it, I would not rule out the IV ACR as it is a lot of fun on track. For pure street driving I might opt for the TA 2.0.

I think I agree with the comment above stating you probably want a GTC TA2 instead of the ACR if you're not going to track the car at all. I went back and forth on that as mine is mainly a road car and a few track days a year. Ultimately, I wanted the extra creature comforts and more sound deadening along with the exterior TA carbon spoiler and splitters up front. The ACR wing for the street is a little too much "look at me" IMO, but to each their own. With that said, if tracking the car was my primary intent I would absolutely have bought the ACR-E. So I suggest it comes down to how you wish to use the car.

Depending on your size, if its an issue at all. The Gen V does fit a bigger/wider person much better than the Gen 3-4's, more shoulder room. My left shoulder was always scrunched in the Gen 3-4s. The ACR-E wing isn't that noticeable out the rear windshield. Not sure if the TA 2.0 shorter wing obstructs the view or not. The 2013 Launch Edition did have a smother ride than the ACR-E. I don't mind the stiffer ride with the ACR-E, so its not an issue for me. I second Viper George, that Comp Blue TA 2.0 in the classifieds sure looks like a nice car.

How you liking the 18-speaker setup? I think this sound system is the best on any 2-door sports car. Only thing better it probably from a GT car 2+2, thinking bentley or aston martin.

Driving on street the system sounds good - when I’m on the freeway with windows down I think it’s pretty bad - can’t hear it as well as I want on spirited drives. With windows up it’s solid but I never drive with windows up
