A drop of windo-weld wherever the grate makes contact with the ring.

Yes the GTS/2 Vent Hood are a different size. The Six vents are slightly smaller I believe.

Yes, but all 6 vent hood vents are the same regardless of model. Except for year to year differences as they improved the retention tabs I believe at some point.

Damn, why doesn't a vendor make these vents like this? Carbon Fiber rings and steel mesh? Bueller, Bueller, I mean ... Shelby, Shelby, Shelby......

No the ACR uses the SRT hood and add the vents over the front tires.

Thanks to you and BJG32 for the info. I ordered the bezels, adhesive and wire mesh today. Fortunately, I only need to make two.

That looks awesome. Makes you wonder why they didn't come like that from the factory.

Looks good. However I presume they don't pop out for track use as the OEM ones right?

Can one of you guys take a picture from underneath? I want to see how that looks in finished form.

hope this post helps you and others that attempt this on their own. it's not hard. it's just time consuming and a slow process.

i can take a pic underneath tonight. mines not the prettiest just a warning b/c i sealed the whole edge wear the mesh meets the bezel underneath. i did that so you couldn't see gaps around the edges from the top of the car. u don't see that in the pics below. i went back later and sealed the edges. the pics just show me using window adhesive to get the mesh to stick how i want before i sealed the sides.

i tried to mimic the angle of the factory diamond holes that was in the plastic hood bezels on the new mesh and this is how i did it. i laid carbon ring on top of factory insert with no adhesive. i laid 2 pieces of tape down...1 top to bottom and 1 side to side....that flowed with the angle of the factory bezel. b/c if u look at the factory bezel, the stock diamond shape holes aren't straight from side to side. tape was long enough to wear it stuck on the carbon ring. took the ring off with the tape attached carefully. then i laid the ring with tape on the mesh and lined up my angle.

i attached some pics of my progress when i was doing them. forgot i had these. in the end you will cut off all the excess mesh of course. i tried to keep the mesh as close the edge as possible so it didn't interfere with me putting it on the car with double sided tape. the only 2 i had to trim up a little were the top 2 of the 6 holes in the hood.

just a warning....the window adhesive is a pain in the azz to work with on a small detailed project like this. and if i were u i'd wear gloves b/c when that crap gets on your fingers or hands it just smears when you try to wipe it off. takes a good amount of elbow grease to get it off your skin. i squirted the adhesive on a paper plate, bit the pointy end off a tooth pick, and then used the rest of the toothpick to work the adhesive into and around the mesh so it stuck to the carbon ring.

this the link to the mini spring clamps and double sided tape i bought from amazon.

No what I was asking is when you put the grille on you are effectively reducing the open air space which subsequently reduces the ability of air exiting the hood area. The oem ones are meant to be removed for track use to reduce front end lift. By sticking on grilles on CF rings that cannot be removed at the track you are reducing the cars ability to let out air on track. Of course if you never track car then there is no problem. That's why I kept my CF rings ooen.

To tag onto this these have more resistance with the mesh added, and may need additional adhesive to prevent them from being ejected off the hood at speeds similar to those that were tested while open. Where that failure point is has too many uncalculated variables to establish at the moment.

If this is popular and desirable enough, perhaps we can talk Xtreme or Doug into looking into it more.

Well I thought about putting grilles on these CF rings when I got mine but then I realised if I did, I couldn't remove them on track as you would the OEM plastic ones(as the CF rings are taped in well and good). So decided to keep them open with no grilled. And anyway all I wanted was the CF bezel/ring to cover the edges of the opening and have it permanently open so that a. I didn't need to keep popping off the OEM ones off on track and b. looked kinda cool with a CF ring over the holes.
I can also attest to the fact that my rings have not budged or moved since putting them on-despite 170 mph top speeds down some straights. Of course I used a secret weapon that is extremely difficult to remove!I use it on all my tubular road bike wheels.. I told Wayne and Laurel about it....Not sure if they passed it on to anyone.

I just picked up a set of the CF grill frames from Wayne and I am trying to setup the same with the metallic grills. I will be doing it this weekend. I am going to try and make mine such that there is a mechanical attachment, something I can remove and attach. Let me see what I figure out. Once I’ve got it done I’ll be sharing it with Wayne. Hopefully I can do something that

Anyone want to sell their original SRT hood grills? I have a friend that needs all 6.

Adding the metal mesh to the carbon fiber rings, based on the pictures, would look to allow more airflow than the OEM ones. In fact while they wouldn't provide as much airflow as an open hole I'm guessing that most of us wouldn't notice the difference on the track. Doesn't the ACR manual state that removal of the six hood vents is a way of tweaking downforce? I don't think it says they always should be removed on track, maybe I'm wrong. I am out of town right now or I would check.

Gotta be honest too, I've never removed them from my ACR. The ACR is already far more capable than I am so removing the six hood vents would make absolutely no difference to me. Although maybe it would reduce under hood temps some. Hmmm, got to think about that. Has anyone with the metal mesh and carbon fiber rings noticed any difference in under hood temps?

I guess the other question you can also ask is why the need for a grille anyway? What are you expecting to go into your hood? A leaf or something? Or people randomly putting their hand in there?. Well if someone wants to be malicious and cause you damage, a grille is not going to stop them. I've never had a problem with my open CF hood rings..

I think having the grill looks much better. So for me it's purely aesthetics. To each his own.

  23. #48
I have not noticed a difference in temps etc..... I think Gilles said there is minimal underhood temp differences between 6 vent and 2 vent so this mod is nothing.

It was purely and aesthetics thing for me.

I think the CF rings with the metal mesh look better than just a hole. Personal opinion of course.

Nothing pretty shows in those holes. The grates look better IMO.
