    Teamtech Harness Bar Alternatives

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone found any teamtech harness mounting alternatives. I know the genv has the should strap mounts built in, but how about for the other two? Teamtech sells a $200 bar for the anti-sub and lap straps. I think it is a little excessive for a metal tube with eye bolts.

Well when you describe it like that is does sound expensive! But it's not. That's what I was expecting but was impressed with the complexity of the piece and what goes into making it. I suspect they also test or check them over very carefully given their purpose and company reputation for quality. Worth it.

The $200 is for it being FIA and SFI certified

There's a threaded mount on the side of the transmission tunnel hidden behind the carpet for one lap belt and the factory lap belt mount is used on the door side. I received the hardware needed for both, eye bolt for the tunnel and a longer bolt for the other if I recall correctly. Make sure everything is included. The tunnel eye bolt can restrict seat movement slightly unless they have made a change since 2014, with needing to raise or lower seat before moving fore or aft, or visa versa. You can still get the seat to wherever you need it though.

I must have missed this hardware lol, didn't receive anything. The carpet isn't easy to remove either on the tunnel side. And I guess the bar would still be better because you still have to attach the anti-sub belts.

You don't remove the tunnel carpet, just locate the pre-threaded hole and make an X cut with a utility knife to insert the eye bolt through. Venom V had a good "how to" thread on the complete installation back in 2013 or early 2014 which I used. Only tricky part was finding that hole but he provided measurements which were bang on. Good luck!

I use a test light, but anything that can poke through the carpet will work. Poke around the trans tunnel behind the seat and eventually you'll find a threaded nut-cert. Cut a hole in the carpet, that's where the inner lap belt anchors. There's one on the passenger side too.

I recently purchased the Team-Tech Gen5 anchor for my Gen4. Maybe they have a Gen4 version, all I found on the website was the Gen5 one. I'm in Kuwait, don't feel like staying up to make a phone call so online order it was. The anchor bar is a cleaner install. I modded it for 5 point harnesses because that's what I already had, but the Team-Tech is build for 6 point (2x sub belts). They probably don't offer the 5 point anchor because of the SFI standard.

Safety first. A Hans device is around $400.

I just looked at a couple of threads that say that a newer style Team Tech sub bar also includes the lap belt mount so I could be way off base.

I would only use that in conjunction with a roll bar I think, although Ralph Gilles knows the construction of the roof and used a Hans without roll bar.

I have worn a hans since 2004 or so when I added my 6 point belts. Wouldn't go without it with the mullti strap seatbelt when there is no give. I even make my passengers were one.

The Gen 5 factory roll over protection does appear to be pretty substantial; although it lacks the cross bracing of a roll bar accepted by racing organizations.

TeamTech apparently claims the factory mounting points for the lap belts are stronger than using their bar with the loops for the lap belts. If you use a bolt instead of an eyebolt for the trans tunnel mount it won't interfere with the seat movement but then it is not as easy to remove. I had loops welded to the TeamTech bar for the sub belts though as I don't like sitting on them when I'm not at the track.

I'm able to pull the sub straps to the sides and down around underneath the seat cushion and then tuck the adjusters back into the seat back so I'm not sitting on any of it.

Worth the $200. I just sold a set for $180 or something when I switched seats.

I like the idea of mounting the lap belts to the trans tube and existing seat belt fastener. The teamtech bar is great for a easy install but I dont like 4 points being tied to 2 bolts in the floor.

Does anyone have a photo of how they used the seat belt bolt as the mounting location for the left lap belt?

When you purchase the Anchor bar, it also includes the hardware for the bar, and the lap-eyebolts.

If you choose the cut-carpet option, you would have to buy that hardware. And the side-mounted option bolts do interfere with some seats. The Gen matters...........the G5 seats matter....your vendor matters.....
