Anyone make a quot front bumper park assist camera quot that can integrate with our screens

I can't remember anyone asking this, and I already know that most people will just say "be more careful" but I'll ask it anyway. Does anyone make a front camera that splices into the video circuit for for the backup camera? I've had all too many "near misses" where I thought I had a foot of clearance to the parking bump stop, and when I got out of the car, I saw that I was just barely touching it. This is probably because my daily drivers are SUVs and I just don't have to worry about parking them - so I've gotten desensitized to being careful.

It would be super cool to somehow splice a camera into the system so that, when you're parking, you see exactly where the parking stop is. Might be impossible, but I figured I'd ask anyhow.

I looked into wireless dashcams that looked small enough to mount somewhere inconspicuous, and that's an option since the car never sees rain. But, I'll bet that the half-life of a setup like that would be pretty short due to road grime and rocks.

This is a very good question. I have done the same thing - gotten out of the car only to discover I am millimeters away from hitting the curb or parking stop thingy.

It's scary - that can end up being a $6000+ or so mistake, depending on how many of the splitter pieces you have installed, and how hard you hit. It's also not something you can use be Braille method to feel your way around.

But I heard getting to the back of the nav screen is dealer tech major surgery.

The only good news is that the ACR splitter extension is really tough. It can take a beating without damage. Hitting the front of a non-ACR is not good.

I had an Alpine ALP-HCEC212F Front View Camera Wide Angle/Multi View installed as soon as I took delivery of my car back in 2015. It is mounted in my grill and it works seamlessly with the existing 8.4" factory display screen, thanks to a NAV-TV UCT 13+ UConnect B/U Camera & Video Input Module. I can turn it on at any time by pressing the factory camera button on the center stack. I can toggle between front and rear cameras and the rear camera still comes on automatically when I select reverse gear.

The camera shows three views -selectable via a small button on top of my rear view mirror (next to the toggle switch to change from rear view to front view.) There's a general wide-angle view that I don't use. There's a straight down view so that I can inch right up to any parking curb without touching it. And there's a split screen view that looks 90 degrees to the right and left so that I can literally see around corners. As you know, we sit very far back relative to the front of the car... without the camera, when exiting an alley with buildings on one or both sides for instance, we need to stick our noses out about ten feet before we can see anything; a challenge if there's a sidewalk or bike lane. With the camera, I can look straight down both sides as I roll up to the sidewalk.

The resolution and color rendition aren't as good as on the factory backup camera but they do the job. And the equipment may well have been upgraded since I bought mine 4.5 years ago... part numbers may have changed as well but this should give you a good start if you're interested in the upgrade.

With this system, I can park right up to curbs without stress. And being able to see around corners really improves my Viper driving experience as well. I'd highly recommend getting a front camera.
