Does anyone use Motul 300V 0W40 oil in their Vipers?
Does anyone use Motul 300V 0W40 oil in their Vipers?
Switched to Motul 6100 10 40 this year.Oil pressures seem to be more stable hot, when driving hard on track, vs Mobil 1 I used before.
,
Food for thought! I have a family member that does testing of ALL oils that there are- Every test, for the last 10 years, or more, and Mobile 1 out lasted all oils, Mobil 1 is simply the best. The next best in testing is Lucas oils and additives. Use whatever you want, But i know 1st hand.
Blasphemy! Car manufacturer's are stupid! Factory engineers are stupid! Pep Boys and Amazon know more about cars than they do! Upgrade! Upgrade! Upgrade!
Anywho, I've used Mobil (Mobile) 1 for well over a decade now in my Gen 2. And every old wife's tale about OEM being crap is incorrect. And the engineers that spec'd Mobil 1 as the factory fill for the Gen were right.
Sidewalk sale at Harbor Freight tomorrow. They are the bomb too. Who's in?
Does your family member work for Southwest Research? I know someone who works there too. "They" say the top oils are so close in performance, you can't really go wrong with any of them.

I swear there must be an automatic feature to post an oil discussion every month.
I thought Chrysler recommended Pennzoil Ultra for the later Viper, but I'm sure some believe that nothing but Mobil 1 works for the Viper.lol. As some mentioned, top brands with same specs and viscosities would work just fine. Don't buy brands like compliments at Safeway or any corner store, you'll be alright,hehe.![]()
Viper motors weren't grenading regularly under warranty until they started recommending Pennzoil for factory fills...
Also, minor little things like unreadable dipsticks, or people who wouldn't check them at all contributed heavily to the problem.
eh....Walmart 10W40 for me or Rotella when I find a deal. Been using it for over 60k high boost miles...and the generic black MOPAR filter. SAE certs are all the same. Use the same in my 360 (5.9 Magnum) V-8 with 177000 no drama miles.
Hi All , sorry for the delay! Getting back. Was a at great car show in Orlando Festivals of speed. Look it up.
My cousin works for Lubrizol. Look them up. They run engines for all kinds of testing , Those engines are ran for weeks on end, non-stop. They take the oils out and test them for all kinds if wear , engines, all kinds of engines. They are NOT bias.
Bottom line Mobile 1 was the best. Getting to the question about Pennzoil, When Sergio was in charge, FIAT was in bed with Pennzoil, When the got rid of the SRT division, look it up, Bye Bye to Mobil 1. All the older Gen's were using Mobil 1, I think for the Gen 5 came out, is when they went to Pennzoil. That 's all i have on That, other than that what i was told, My cousin was the one who took the oils in the Lab, and did the required testing, Please keep in mind, there are Hundreds of test done every day, for all kinds of stuff. I always pick here brain when i see her. ( 1 -2 year )
The SRT Engineers I talked to recommended Mobil 1 ..................
Speaking of oil, a friend of mine who lives in Italy says there is a very big difference using Extra Virgin Oil than Virgin Oil in cooking. I am confused as a virgin is a virgin and how can one be an extra virgin?

The age old question.
Oh, I get it , if someone would ask the age old question , " Is she a Virgin," the response is, "How would I know it's Greek to me?"
I use it.
2018 I had Mobil 1 which got really hot on track and I lost oil pressure in both turns and idle in the pits.
2019 I had Motul 0w40 and the oil pressure was dead stable throughout the whole afternoon at the track. Although! This time it was a much slower track on which I never shifted out of second, it's like an overgrown gokart track so the comparision is not all that fair.
But with that said, all my oils in the Viper are now Motul except for brake fluid on which I stick to Endless.
If it works on race cars, it works on regular street cars.
Ran Mobil 1 from 99 on in my track cars and have never had it get hot or lose oil pressure. I switched the Viper over to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum when the natural gas formula came out and again never had an issue. Currently run Mobil one in my race car, and always clean and solid oil pressure , so in my experience I would have to say the gentleman who stated there is very little difference in super high quality oils , likely is on the right track. I use only Motul for brake fluid, but like all my fluids in my race car, I change them frequently. Seems the folks I chat with who have problems are trying to mirror their street car in trying to see how long they can go between changes? Just my humble opinion , but solid fan of both Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and the SRT/Dodge Engineers I have chatted with over the years have good things to say about both.
I did use Mobil1 in my Porsche for one change. It had the usual chatter in the boxer engine. Switched to Lubrication Engineers (LE) and it suddenly was quiet. And it wasn't because of a thicker LE oil to quieten it, it was actually slightly thinner than the M1. This is the same story for every engine I have tested it in in the last 15 years. I have used it in my Viper too, and would not testfill anything else any more.
A good acid test would be to send your oil out for full analysis in same conditions with different brands and you’ll have a good perspective and what works well ...
The test isn’t that expensive compared to the data you get back.
Oil foaming on our V10’s with different oil manufacturers is one issue the engineers encountered.
