    Gen 5 body panel

    Guys, can someone tell me what makes up this part of the body panel shown? I have a small ding or indent there where apparently the previous owner had jacked the car up underneath there which you're not supposed to do. It's not too bad, but I'm wondering if I had the car up on the rack at the dealer if a "Dent Wizard" could possibly do anything with it.

    That's the rocker panel and it's made from aluminum. I would think an experienced body shop shouldn't have much trouble.

    Yup, aluminum and probably can be fixed very easily by a body shop. You'll save a bunch if you take the sill off yourself - very easy to do.

    Call a dent removal guy, they can fix that easy.

    Actually paintless dent removal (as you see advertised for hail damage) on aluminum is not that easy. It can sometimes be done but aluminum is more difficult than stamped steel because aluminum does not have "memory" like steel. Aluminum can be hammered and worked though to remove the dent but then you are talking about paint.

    When I had hail damage on my Ram pickup there happened to be another vehicle there with hail damage to an aluminum hood. The head guy told me that working on aluminum is a real pain because of the lack of memory. They were able to get it done but it took a lot of effort.

    George, maybe the memory problem is they forget how much they quoted the original estimate to do the work versus what they soak you for in the end? Ha! Ha! Aluminum IS a lot harder to do dint less repair on. ��

    The difficulty in doing repairs on the sills is one reason I cringe at parking my car where reckless shopping carts abound.

    Paint-less dent repair is the way to go. The Rocker is special order and costs over $5500 new from dealer.

    No it's only $3549.00, but they mat as well be $1,000,000.00 since they are shown as discontinued. There is a new left side on ebay for $3195.00

    I find it very concerning that many of the parts for the Gen 5 are discontinued or backordered.

    I was told that the decision to fill more orders after final production used up most service parts.

    I have a 2016 insurance job and the hood is not available.

    My local dealer indicated they have had cars under warranty that they cannot provide parts for.

    This has been my concern from the beginning. What about those of us under R28 Extended - if I need and engine by April 2023, will it be available? Or supporting parts?

    Completely agree with you I think they will end up like the gen 1 and 2 cars with no parts available I know of a person who needs a rear quarter panel for a Gen 5. They called the dodge dealership not only is the part on back order it also has been re-vamped so new design now he needs both new quarter panels and side sills for the new part to fit he said they told him it was around $18k for just the parts.

    It's definitely an issue - my car has been in the shop for about a month now. I haven't gotten definitive information on what's holding it up, but I think it is parts.

    The sad thing about this is a lot of people might have their cars stuck in limbo for long enough that they get fed up, the lemon laws kick in, and the cars get bought back and auctioned at a deep discount (especially if they're not in running order due to lack of parts to finish the fix). Seems like FCA would be much better off just firing up the parts machine and stockpiling enough spares so that people are covered for the foreseeable future. Or, as with the Delorean, the third party market might fill the gaps.

    Seems to me you could part out your 100% working Gen 5, for more than you could sell it for whole.

    There are quite a few used parts on eBay and thru X2 builders. Including both rocker panels for a gen v. Tons of GTS hoods, roofs and door panels and hatchbacks.

    This obviously happens with all older cars. But, believe it or not, you can still own and repair a 1972 Porsche 911 as well as most any other older car.
