New owner here question about 335 35 R17 availability and re calibrating speedo

Well, I talked to Discount Tire today and it seems like rear Michelin PS2s in 335/35/R17 are on national backorder with no ETA. I have heard of tire availability being a challenge, but for some reason I thought that was just for Pirellis. For those of you that have probably been through this before, is there always a backorder for rear tires on these cars? Is there a certain time of year or some way to get notified of when there's availability?

I am also looking into a 3rd gen wheel swap, since Michelin Pilot Super Sports are readily available for these wheels, but without an OBD connection I know it's going to require a splice-in module. The two current options appear to be Unitrax and Yellow Box - but I only see the Unitrax module as being advertised for gear ratio changes, not speedo recalibration. Is there a popular opinion on which one is preferred?

    Thank you all!

As for speedo correction: the Unitrax box does take care of it as it is spliced in between the speed sensor sitting in the trans and the instrument unit. You just program it to meet your new setup (the box does not care if the adjustment is due to gear change or wheel change).

Btw: The (black) unitrax box is actually a yellow box...

You might want to see how much your speedo is off before you put in the module. There are free apps that will give you your speed right on your mobile phone. I use WAZE. I have a few cars with non-stock rear axle ratios. After seeing the difference in mph between old and new, I decided it was not worth the trouble for a few mph differences.

I just installed a YellowBox into my transmission harness a couple weeks ago...It's super easy, hidden, and out of the way. I was correcting for 3.73 gears w/stock 18s on a 01' GTS...speedo was WAY off!

Jon B probably has a set of 18 inch rims he could sell you , along with tires ---- I would suggest the BFGs for a great all round ride and flexibility.

I can program your computer for a gear change and most likely improve the calibration. The yellow box is the easiest fix, but it is a little confusing to set up the first time.
    Unitrax sells them.
