Proper storage for Gen 2 factory tires

The '96 GTS i just bought came from a collector who had the original factory mounted tires on the stock wheels. The tires are hard, but not dry rotted. I bought new wheels and tires so i can save these as a collectors item, but i'm not sure how to best store them.

I bought this rack from tirerack (https://www.tirerack.com/accessories...RERACK2&ID=164) but I'm not sure if i should put the wheels+tires in anything before putting them up on the rack...

Plastic bag? Some kind of tire storage bag? Any advice so the tires stay in good shape?

if they had any drive cycles (most likely) they will eventually deteriorate. Sounds like you only want to keep them for sentimental value. that's fine. Don't put them back on the car and I don't think they'll add any value.
Tire bags, and keep out of extreme heat (like an attic would cause).

As silly as it seems, there is value in the tires to some collectors. I frankly don't understand it , but over the years , listening, I found it very important to certain folks. I would put them in plastic bags, store in a fairly warm place and put cardboard packing circles between each rim if stacked on top of each other. Also, according to an old friend who has owned a Tire Company for over 40 years, keep them away from electrical machines as they emit ozone ( his words not mine). I am saving the ones on my car , only because after years and years of customers asking me if the car had the original tires and rims, I surmised , that to some, there is value. It always seemed like these individuals were the ones that wanted to pay the most too, ha,ha!

Great additional information Green Venom and I had completely forgotten why I was supposed to stack my tires and rims. At my age I need to take that memory medication they advertise on Television, but I can't remember what it is?

If you REALLY want to be A/R, protect from OXYGEN, especiually if the tire is new, and never-inflated or never-driven.
Its O2 that oxidizes-hardens the rubber.

Put each tire in a 55-gal drum-liner as from HomeDepot. Use a shop vac or hose-vac to suck out all the air, essentially vacuum-packing each tire. Knot/Tie off so that even a bug inside would suffocate eventually. Stack Tires as above in a cool place, no extreme temps. Sleep well my AR friends.....

    A/R..
    Anal retentiveness
An anal retentive person is a person who pays such attention to detail that it becomes an obsession and may be an annoyance to others. The term derives from Freudian psychoanalysis.

This thread is turning into another chucklefest. Topic could be Democrat / Republican, what weight oil, thoughts on what to do with $100K, Best tires, or a host of others that elicit strong opinions and hilarious responses.

I always learn a lot from you guys!! Keep it up and keep me laughing.

BTW - saving my tires too

Real men do burnouts with their old tires and then go find some hookers and blow. Maybe midgets too.

Old Viper wheels make great garden-hose-reels, attach to garage or house.... anyone else do that ?
