Alcantara Steering Wheel

I currently have the leather SRT steering wheel in my ACR and would like to switch it for the Alcantara one in the picture below. Can you guys help me out with the best approach? Should I have my current one re-done or do they sell the wheel and just swap it out? I did some searches and was not very clear as to what components I should buy and re-use. I want the most cost effective approach and was a bit confused when I saw that all the parts come separate when ordering from Dodge. I see you can buy the following things separately: Wheel, Cover, Airbag, Bezel. I read that I can just use all the components of my current wheel and just buy the Alcantara steering wheel only - is that right?

Is anyone selling an Alcantara wheel by any chance at the moment or point me in the direction to buy one at a good price? How difficult is the install? I am not patient person not that handy so prefer to have someone do it for me to make sure its done right.

I won’t be putting a lot of miles. I really liked the feel of it and want to give it a shot. I prefer to keep my old wheel in case I want to swap back ever. Thanks for the feedback though!

I would guess you'd only want the "wheel" part, but there's going to be different part numbers for the finishing materials. I found this: https://www.moparpartscounter.com/v-...wheel-and-trim. Everything else should swap over.

No doubt you'll want to visit your local dealership, but they may want some VIN numbers from an ACR to help out. I don't find Mopar parts diagrams and parts listing clear or helpful AT ALL when trying to fit a non-OE part to a car.

I'll second this - the alcantara material is like a sponge that soaks up grease and sweat from your hands in no time. It looks and feels great when new, but they do get nasty looking and feeling after a little while. On the bright side, this is a common problem and there are lots of steering wheel restorers out there. They'll re-stitch the material for you. Maybe talk to some of the vendors on this site (I think Venzano is/was one).

I used to know a guy that did re-covering jobs solely on Ferrari steering wheels. He charged around $300 to re-do a steering wheel back in the day.

The alternative is to wear gloves, but that is kind of a pain for day to day use.

I would love to have the area behind the shifter "Where you set your arm/elbow" in alcantara. Perfect spot for that.
Seems that all the exotic car builders on YouTube are having steering wheels done by Carbontastic and I must admit they look crazy good. Might be interesting to have some custom carbon work done, and have them do the Alcantara. From what I've seen it looks A+ quality.

Just buy another leather wheel and send it out to DCT Motorsports. They can custom wrap it in whatever you'd like. I have large hands, so I actually had them increase the diameter of the wheel (where your hands wrap around) in order to be more comfortable. www.dctms.com

I have one in my ACR and would give anything to have leather. Alcantera is nasty. Should have no place in a car! It’s like a cheap velvet Elvis poster of the 70s. All you need is a black light!

Keep the leather, alcantara for the road truly sux, besides absorbing oils and dirts like crazy, I find my ACR-E's alcantara being too slippery on the skin so it has to be held "extra" tight as this car needs to be manhandled. I have been thinking of going to perforated leather myself.

Doubt there are very many nasty Alcantara steering wheels out there just go for it they are sweet

For the OEM ACR steering wheel it should be MOPAR 6EZ171XRAA
There should be 2 versions, red or silver center band. Pricey.

Thanks everyone! Looks like I can get the wheel for $1105 and will just reuse other parts from existing wheel. I’ll find out how much install is. Hope it’s not too crazy.

Install is pretty straight forward with a steering wheel puller.

Sometimes I'll wear gloves while driving the ACR-E. It helps with the grip and keeping steering wheel clean.
