What a revolting turn of events. Silly me bought some memorabilia surrounding this "above board" attempt.
Bought me a canvas print of the car, collected videos and pics of the attempt and even commissioned a 1/18 replica to be made of the #60 car Lance drove to the "manual Ring record" (wasn't cheap).
This just disgusts me to read. The pre-meditated deception and cover-up is just despicable. Glad I decided not to donate. I feel for those of you that donated/sponsored in good faith. Hope you are made whole some day.
Clay you're weaving all over the place. I didn't question the lawsuit or the car modification controversy I couldn't give two shits about either one. You know damn well I felt you got screwed we spoke about it. I was asking why the GTS-R you apparently loved suddenly became such a nightmare to you that you had to sell it fast. OBVIOUSLY you're implying here that the value of them would be hurt by this news and I was questioning why you suddenly felt way that since a mere two or three months ago you were asking me to notify you first if I ever wanted to sell mine.
So you went from interested in possibly getting a second one to having to dump your existing one before they "crash"? You've been throwing shade at them since you sold yours here and elsewhere. By the way, in our messaging back a few months ago you told me why you really needed to sell yours....just in case you forgot.
I've recommended your family business to many people for Viper and Jeep extended warranty contracts as you well know on FB and elsewhere. Your nasty response is making me regret it.
All donations were in the name of Viper Nurburgring Record
Comon Russ. Why would you make the donation in your business LLC name ? Tax Advantages yes.
Russ....I will kindly take my money back. You can Pay Pal me you know my address. Or how about i sell you
that Lie of a Helmet. Sounds like Prefix knew, the car Techs knew (Im sure they signed a non disclosure). You shouldn't
mess with Racers, way too many Racers put the Screws to others. It is all a Ponzi Scheme. Karma can come back and kick you in the ass. ...
Who knows maybe they were Laundering Money Lots of it....Each person knows what they gifted after listening to
tales of lies and deceit.

From the first day I thought success was doubtful because the ACR-E was designed and fitted to specifically dominate on our shorter tracks in N.A. and not on a track like the Ring where tires and extreme fixed aerodynamics were both obvious and serious hinderances. Those closely involved in car preparation also knew that and were obviously looking at hidden modifications from the beginning to try to make the car competitive or it all would have been pointless. And it would seem that others who stood to gain in some way also knew and supported the deceit.
While this is a major disappointment for a number of reasons I think it unlikely that anything will really change outside of the Viper community despite the pain that many within it feel. Had this been a factory effort it might have been very different, and while there was no point to them doing a factory effort for a discontinued car, I'd like to think they were smart enough not to go this route. They set the records they were after and the ones that mattered most.
Does anyone know if or how seriously controversies regarding other brands Ring attempt modifications have impacted those brands and owner communities?
what about the gen 4 vipers that went over there, how stock were those cars i wonder?
Wonder if this is why FCA stayed away from the attempt in the first place?
i cant believe they actually had the balls to do this, if it got jacked up(wich it did) how embarassing and foolish as a business to put yourself in... wow
Egos were too massive to do this right. Glory was the most important thing to the organizers. So important it appears they committed fraud. They did it all on enthusiasts dime and gave our car history a massive black eye to end on.
If Russ could have just checked his ego instead of suing or possibly just not bragging about his settlement probably would have never have come out.....but he just had to grandstand in Clay's face.
Liars and litigious people irk me. As they say: Revenge will never solve anything, but karma will.
I did not not donate due to a particular company sponsoring. One that went out of there way to stop me talking about customizing center caps (nobody else offered this) for owners because I did not have sponsorship. Yes, thats the rules I guess, but I didn't charge or do enough of them to even cover the sponsorship costs. I used the little money made to buy parts etc from sponsors.
I'm done commenting but this has been therapeutic (selfishly...because I hope something like this happens to the person who frivolously sued my business and wife). Very sorry for Clay and all those that were duped. I'm going back to enjoying the car I've loved for 28 years. This will have no bearing on my enthusiasm for the ACR E....especially with 13 legitimate track records!

Ban Russ...jury is out on the rest of them. What a disgrace!
The very first thing that came to my mind when some of the pictures started getting posted and I saw who was all there was; "I hope all these folks are there on their own dime". I still think some of them were there to spectate.
Perhaps they went on their own dime, and if so, why weren't some of the UK members allowed?

Russ is a real piece of work. You may remember that after the "Attempt" he was soliciting donations to pay the track repair bills. I took a fair amount of heat from some members on here for questioning his motives. He is the type of person that loves to take credit for work done on others peoples dime. I sure that he lined his pockets every step of the way.
How will ownership or values be hurt? What does a Ring record mean to anyone anyway regarding being a Viper owner? So you take a PROFESSIONAL race car driver and let's say that he did break the record...big deal. This wasn't a factory sponsored event in which the factory did what was done...these were people who essentially tried to say one thing and do another...happens everyday in life.
Of course it's not a big deal because we didn't set a new record. Can you imagine the drama that would have kicked up if the Gen 5 did set a Ring record substantially faster than anything else and held the record for 4 or 5 years....and then the automotive world finds out that the Viper had performance modifications? Now that would have been an embarrassing shit show. Would it have hurt values on the ACR-E?....well it wouldn't have helped them.
This little drama really doesn't matter to the world....I mean other than the Porsche crowd toasting each other that even a modified Viper didn't come close to the 911 GT2 RS lap record. I'm sure that car was 100% production stock
Good luck proving that the Vipers were modified. This will turn out like that TV show "The Curse Of Oak Island".....no matter how much you dig, you'll never be able to confirm what you're looking for.
1st world problems...fwiw
I funded the attempt and could honestly care less about the result. It doesn't even have a storyline that's worth telling my friends about or people interested in the car since it didn't beat, as Arizona pointed out, even the GT3RS let alone the Huracan. It was a great effort but we came up short. It never was or will be a Nurburgring car in its stock form*. Excessive downforce, tires, lack of PDK etc...just not going to happen on a 12.9 mile course. If anyone asks about the car I make sure to bring up the 13 track records that it broke (upon launch in 2015) and leave it at that. Nurburgring is not even in my vocabulary and the poster is still in it's tube in the back of my office. No disrespect to the effort but in the same way I don't have Western Conference Championship posters hanging in my house on the years my Warriors lost in the finals.
This car still demolishes almost anything at your local 1-3 mile track. I'm smiling from ear to ear just thinking about that.
The fact that there was a lawsuit over copyright infringement on a photo makes me sick. That was purely an insurance play with bottom feeding attorneys.
This! My bone stock ACR (except for wheels/tires) has more NasaProRacing.com track records (7!) than any other car in country.
