Gen V Cockpit Finish and Integrity vs. Gen IV

To all of those Gen V owners who also had Gen IV, how would you describe the Gen V. cockpit environment and integrity? For example, are there any rattles over uneven road surfaces? Is there wind noise with the windows closed at higher speeds? Any driveline shunt over uneven surfaces at low speed? Etc.

From what I have seen, the Gen V materials are a definite upgrade, but I am speaking more to the integrity of the interior and structure.

The 5 interior is a whole other level of upgrade. Gen 4 basically has an interior from 2003, 10 yrs older in design, assembly, materials. Cabin is quieter on the new car, no rattles on mine after 8000 miles.

8,000 miles Tony! I'm closing in on 6,000, but you've been at it longer, LOL. I will close the gap later this month when I drive to Spring Mountain Raceway for a two day private lesson in my Viper.

I haven't owned a Gen IV, but I'll give you my perspective on my Gen V. Absolutely gorgeous, high quality, beautifully designed interior. I went with the red/black Napa leather in my GTS, just like the concept car had. I have an intermittent squeak that comes and goes on occasion, currently it's not making any noise at all. Integrity is high. The Gen V is not as isolated as most sports cars at speed, nothing like a Mercedes AMG or the C7 Vette which I briefly drove at Spring Mountain Raceway. I prefer it this way- it's raw, connected to the tarmac, the exhaust is loud, you do hear some road noise. It's got soul and character. I don't want a cream puff, I want a race car that you can drive on the street, that makes no compromises in performance to pamper the driver. It's comfortable, the seats are fantastic and more comfortable than any I've owned. I've driven from NorCal to Las Vegas and back, and have done several long weekend road trips. Driver and passenger were very comfortable.

This is the greatest area of improvement on the new cars I feel. SRT did a very nice job on the Gen V interior even in base trim.

Only issue I have is

1) base stereo rattles a bit which is annoying depending on the song

2) random issues with carpet pulling up near sill of passenger - but just need to tuck it in.

The car should of course not be quiet like a luxury sedan, etc. I have a BMW 550i for that.

My Gen IV has been great, but I did need to initially chase down some plastic-on-plastic, etc. rattles and squeaks and pad them to remove the noise. The Gen V cockpit is definitely a big step up. However, the frame, etc. has much in common with Gen IV so I am interested if it feels more solid/integrated/rattle free right out of the box.

Never had a IV; just south of 2k on the V; I have the intermittent squeak too. Laguna Sepia is incredible. It's like driving a street legal race car with a Porsche interior. The factory floor mats are weak and they don't even provide one for rear hatch. I upgraded to Lloyd's floor mats and recommend it. I agree with Ralph in that the steering wheel is the best part. I also like how the dash flows into the handle on passenger side; very euro look; seats are great.

Pics only go so far. I have looked at the interior of Bitten's car and it's gorgeous. I like my base interior a lot, but have to concede that the GTS interior is a significant upgrade.

Without question, the materials and layout in Gen V are nicer than the materials and layout in Gen IV. The intent of the inquiry is whether the interior is more solid and rattle and squeak-free than Gen IV? That is, the noises from the cockpit while going over uneven road surfaces at 30-34 mph, in and out of driveways, wind noise, etc. Gen IV had some issues here and needed some padding, etc. to eliminate any rattles or squeaks. Does the Gen V have the same issues?

I don't pay any attention to rattles and squeaks. I like hearing the road noise. My daily is a Rubicon. The Gen 5 is quieter than my 05 vert with long tube headers and Corsa exhaust. It's quieter than my 06 coupe. But it isn't like a Mercedes for sure and I don't want it to be.

If you look at the interior of my Gen 5 then you can tell it's not plastic like Gen 3 or 4. If you are one of those people who can't stand noise in a car I wouldn't tell you to pick any Viper. You hear the engine with its characteristic noise and the road. It drives better but you can still hear the road. I like hearing that. I like feeling that.

Car engine noise = good! Squeaks and Rattles = bad and not a good reason to pay the heavy freight to upgrade from Gen IV to Gen V. This is a key area where I would look for a change.

My "guess" is that Gen V has substantially fewer squeaks and rattles than Gen IV based on the materials used, stiffer chassis and mission statement of SRT to expand the appeal of the Gen V. I am just looking for some experiences of Gen V owners since this is not the type of information which will be gleaned from a brief drive or ride.

car is by far the best of them all, all 4 corners- and way more comfortable than a gen iv- transmission is awesome, no wind noise like a gen iv , put a 100 miles on a gen iv,then put a 100 miles on a gen v- black and white
