    Another Gen ll ASD issue

    Hello All,

    I have a 2002 Gen ll with 105,xxxx miles. Recently had a battery go bad so changed the battery. Car ran fine for about 100 miles then just shut off after about a 20 minute ride. Cranks over but the fuel pump does not prime. I am able to jump the fuel pump. But the car has no spark. Changed the fuel pump relay, checked the other relays no issue there. No fuses blown, Changed the cam sensor, reprogrammed the key fobs, disconnected and reconnected the battery. I did plug a reader in after I changed the battery but I am not getting codes because I disconnected the battery so that wasn't a great idea. Prior to that there were no check engine lights on. My next step is a crank sensor or ECM replacement.....any other ideas ?

    Original poster has done a good job of sorting and, he is quite savvy...agree with him about ASD problem. Given headers and mileage, I would look at O2 sensors and the wiring as next step. OEM sensors are available and an easy repair.

    Hey Guys, I am here to help anyone that is looking to make their Viper an investment because I plan on driving the wheels off this thing if it takes me a lifetime. My car will not be an auction feature ever lol but I take care of it as best as I can so it still looks pretty sharp. I grew up loving these things and now that I have one I love it more.

    Anyway on the troubleshooting Steve is an invaluable resource if you're not familiar with the Viper anatomy. We discussed possible ASD issues in depth and decided on changing the 02 sensors. I did order the Bosch 02 sensors PN#:13100. I plan on ordering the mopar 02 sensors but I they have a longer lead and I only have few days to work on them so I will change to these for now to see I can get the car to start again. Will update in a few days with the outcome.

    Changed the O2 sensors last night. Car did not start but it coughed a few times like it was getting spark so I think the ASD circuit might be complete again but the fuel pump did not prime when turning the key on. I am going to check for spark again and jump the fuel pump relay to make sure it is still good.

    It's probably not spark, but fuel. If it is not priming. To confirm this, spray some starting fluid in the TBs. If is starts, fuel.

    Update!.... I was able to jump the fuel pump and prime the system. That got the car to run until it was out of fuel. Changed multiple relays still did not run. Chased the wiring harness in the trunk and found a loose wire.....secured the wire and the fuel pump primed...engine cranked right up and idled for 10 minutes no problem. Based on the way it acted throughout this issue I think I had 2 problems. First I had an ASD issue. I think the cam sensor was probably fine and the break in the ASD system was one of the O2 sensors because after I changed the O2 sensors spark returned. Ultimately the loose wire kept the car from firing but I think that was self induced while troubleshooting. Thank you for all that helped !


    Here is everything I did:
    New cam sensor
    2 x new downstream O2 sensors (Bosch 02 sensors PN#:13100)
    New fuel pump relay...(put stock relay back in after car fired)
    Jumped fuel pump though relay panel...#30 to #87..this uses the circuit fuse
    Reprogrammed both key fobs
    Disconnected/reconnected battery
    Checked all relays and fuses
    Found loose and cracked insulation in trunk wiring harness (probably self induced during initial troubleshooting)

    Make sure the little fuse box in the trunk does not have a burnt fuel pump relay connection.
