Rear Brake Duct Vent adjustment

Just had the driver side door hinge replaced. The Viper tech took almost half the day trying to adjust the door gaps correctly. Finally got it looking good or so I thought. It was their closing time and I had to get to work in a hurry, so I didn't triple check it. The gaps look good (although it could come forward a tiny bit), but the window is hitting the carbon fiber rear brake duct. Is the duct adjustable? If its an easy fix to adjust it, or is the adjustment strictly at the door. I would rather do it myself instead of taking it back to the dealership.

there is a little play, IIRC it is held in with 3 nuts you need to take the plastic panel on the inside off first

If you mess with the window you'll be prone to wind noise and water leaks. You don't want to "disturb" the mirror flag to glass interface. Much time spent on this at CAAP.

That is a great write up and this project is on my calendar soon for the '16 car. Dumb question so bear with me: I saw a note in the write up where the '13 cars did not have the nozzle installed and the brake duct hose was simply hanging. Do all the '14 - '17 cars have the nozzle installed on the rears? Also curious about what brake cooling is factory in 2016 behind the brake ducts in the grill.

Do all the '14 - '17 cars have the nozzle installed on the rears? Also curious about what brake cooling is factory in 2016 behind the brake ducts in the grill.

As far as I know, or have been able to find out. The 2014's and newer cars have the "nozzle" or "j duct". There might be some early 2014's that might have them missing. It's easy to see without much fuss in the wheel well. Bottom line though... a 2016 has to have it in there.

As for the front, those are present in all the cars. Those are two ducts in front fascia that route directly to the front lower corner of the wheel well. Those are there on all the Gen V's.

Don't know if you already looked at it or tried to adjust it.

There is some play there, but it's not a great deal. Also, we are assuming that the ducts, as installed on your car are not already pushed all the way down and back.

Don't touch the window. Move the duct. There is play that you can adjust. I've pulled them off and put them back on a few times when I've wrapped my roof (well, you don't take them totally off because they have the hose attached to them but they pull off about a few inches).

Anyway, just pull away the plastic interior trim piece that goes up the door jamb just under the seat belt retractor and runs along the weatherstripping. It clips in. No need to totally remove it. Then reach your hand in behind it with a socket (10mm if I recall) and unscrew two nuts. Don't drop them or they will forever be lost. Move the duct to where it does not interfere with the door and re-tighten. Snap back the interior trim and you're done. 3 mins.

Thanks Scott, Yah i'm not going to mess with the window. Its just barley touching the duct. Just need to move maybe an 1/8" for some clearance. I should be able to get to it next week.

Did it hit the duct before hinge replacement? I"m thinking not, If its only 1/8 to go, slide the door on the hinge, You wont see a 1/8 on the gap

Correct, it didn't hit before. It took the Viper Tech 4+ hours to get the hinge on and adjusted to where it is now, and most of the time was messing with the adjustment. the 1st time he showed me it with the new hinge the gaps were way off. He tried to pass it off as that's all the best he could do and there wasn't much more he could adjust. But I insisted he keep at it and he finally got it looking right with the exception of the gap at the duct. It was closing time and I had to get to work, so I had to go. I prefer not to mess with the door, cuz I may make it worse. But I'd rather do it myself at this point. I'll have some time this week to look at it. Worse case scenario, I'll take it back to the Dealership.

My '14 has the full ducts with the J-nozzle thing.

I was able to move the vent back just enough (about an 1/8") so the window doesn't tag it anymore.
