Future Owner Questions about SRT vs base GTS interior and Race Yellow in 15 MY

    Hello VOA!

New to the forum and a longtime Viper fan, but starting to look seriously at picking up a Gen V and had a few questions about interior differences and color availability. I used to have my heart set on a Gen IV (mostly because that's what was on my laptop wallpaper back in engineering school), but the Gen V just seems too good to not consider.

    1) My understanding is that beginning in 2015, the Laguna leather package was standard on the GTS trim, but was an option in 2013-2014. I ask because I've found a 2014 GTS for sale that is a non-Laguna car. I've read the arguments for and against the Laguna leather, but what I want to know is, how does a base SRT interior compare to a non-Laguna GTS interior? Are there any differences in material usage/quality? The only major thing I've noticed visually is the presence of the storage "box" between the seats (which just has a cargo net on the SRT). Below is a (notably poor) picture of the interior from the listing.

    2) Expanding on this more, does the Laguna package cover more than just the seats? Does it extend to the dash/door/panels/any other interior trim?

    3) Lastly, is Race Yellow a standard production color on 2015+ Vipers? It seems to at least be more prevalent on the 13-14 but just wanted to know if RY even exists past 2014 (in a non-GTC vehicle).

Looking forward to hanging around here and learning more!

Not enough difference in interiors to let that be a deal breaker for me.. all gen v viper interiors are nice. Yes race yellow was avail in ‘15 MY

laguna makes the dash, door panels, center console all leather too, and alcantara headliner. Laguna leather is a softer leather as well

I have the non laguna interior in my 2015 Viper GT and lover it. I have the net and it is nice...im not sure if I would want the box. It is a hard place to reach and its nice to chuck things behind the net. Laguna Leather also stretches out and looks funny, I would consider the non laguna interior to be more durable.

I’m with USAF, oringally I wanted the box but the net is convent, and will shift shape slightly, and you can see into it much easier. This is important for digging items out quickly. The box looks better, undoubtedly. I thought I would hate the netting, but it turns out I prefer it.

SRT cars like mine came with either the sabelt leather or the ballistic cloth. The photo you posted are the sabelt leather seats with alcantara inserts, and as far as I know, not available on SRT trim cars. (See picture) Also, I have black stitching on my interior and red stitching on my seats, although contrast stitching may have been available. I really like the Laguna cars finishing touches on the doors.

My car is a very low option car, 3 or 4 options. I’ve added OEM aero, a couple other things, and have plans for a couple other things. It’s like my own, personal GTC car before GTC was a thing. I’d love it if my car had the full CF interior, but those items are available here and there.

I believe that parab is correct. There were three distinct interiors. Ballistic Nylon which was the base interior and found on SRTs and TAs. The Sabelt Leather which I think was the base interior on the 13 and 14 GTSs, then there was the Laguna Leather which was the upgraded option. From my perspective the seats all feel pretty much the same. The Laguna Leather tends to wrinkle and stretch though so I'm not a fan. The interior in my 14 GTS is the nicest IMO. It is the Sabelt Leather and has white stitching to match the exterior of the car. My ACR/TA has the Ballistic Nylon (TA interior) with orange stitching to match the exterior. There was also an ACR interior that included a stripe around the steering wheel but I'm not sure what other differences there are with it.

The console box vs. the netting is an interesting question. The box looks better and holds a bit more as it is higher than the netting. The net is easier to use but you can see everything you stuff in there. I think over time the netting will stretch out too. I have the box on my GTS and the net on my ACR.

Sabelt leather was available on the SRTs.. my ‘14 had it and it was wonderful. I have yet to see an interior combination i dont like.. they are all excellent. Just different flavors..

LOL! GTD1's are pretty awesome, there was a pretty awesome deal on the classified pages for a set of these in black recently. (I'd never let mine go that cheap.)

Thank you all for the quick replies! I don't think the Sabelt vs Laguna leather would be a dealbreaker for me but it's good to finally confirm the difference between the various interiors.

I have another question on R28 and R29 - the '14 I'm looking at only has 200-ish miles (no, that's not a typo) with an April 2014 assembly date, and shows that it passed the R29 recall in April 2016 (no engine replacement noted). However, would there be a reason there was never an R28 recall done? It was my understanding that these were usually done together. And without an R28, does that mean there was no extension of the factory powertrain warranty to 10 years/100k, or is that extension linked to the R29 as well?

Dsjp916, I'll shoot you a PM if this current vehicle falls through!

the R28 and R29 are not linked together. One was for a redesigned PCV vent tube to the intake airbox and corresponding new injector cover to facilitate the new tube. There is no warranty extension for that one. The other one is for testing the oil in the engine to determine if it has contamination (paraphrasing here). If something is amiss in test results the engine is replaced.. if not the current engine remains. in either case i believe the 10yr/100k warranty extension is provided. Hope that helps

R29 only cars don't get the warranty extension - only R28.

you might as well try to get a GTS Laguna, new that option was +$22k over the base, on the used market its more like +$7k over a base. If you get a GTS on 2014+ you get the two piece stoptech rotors included. Whereas you needed the Track Package (2 piece rotors + sidewinder II wheels) on 2013

Of all the interior options I've seen and owned I like the ballistic cloth in the OTA the best. It was tough and durable and I thought it looked great.
I hate that stretched out wrinkled leather look.

For me the biggest deciding factor was how I wanted the overall look of interior to be. Laguna adds additional accent stitching on several surfaces in the interior like the door and seats. This combined with the Alcantara headliner make the interior feel much more upscale in my opinion. Some people could care less, but I wanted my interior to look just as good as the rest of the car.

I sat in a car with the ballistic nylon, and that seat felt the best of all that I've sat in. The ACR seats are a close second, but if I could have gotten the ballistic nylon in my ACR, I would have gotten it in a heartbeat. Way easier to keep clean, very comfortable, and I think it's lighter weight.

Ultimately, everyone is going to say they like what they have best. That's just the way it goes.

The car you buy should be the car that speaks to you the most. If that car happens to have Laguna leather, buy it. If it happens to have the nylon, buy it.

The main thing to remember is that between 2014 and 2015 (before the 1 of 1 program launched) you could order certain options with some cars. So it is not unusual to see a 2014 / 2015 GTS with an SRT hood (6 vents), or an SRT with with some GTS options. Be sure to obtain a window sticker or options list if available when shopping so you can know exactly what came on the car from factory vs. what could have been added after the fact.

Replace the word "here" after the "=" in this link with a VIN # and it should work for most VINs. Some older cars like 2013 don't show up but you can usually request from Dodge if needed.

    https://www.dodge.com/hostd/windowst...df.do?vin=here

From there, if the car is clean (and you like it) there no reason not to buy what speaks to you.

    Happy hunting!
