    Gen 2 front bumper question

Hello gentlemen, I have a good friend that is looking to purchase a Gen 1 or Gen 2 viper so I'm helping him as much as I can as I haven't been a Viper owner too long, we are in Az and trying for a local-ish purchase, there is a low mile clean silver 99 RT/10 for sale in town but it has a front bumper that doesn't look factory, it has no formed center section dividers neither horizontal nor vertical, the grill area is all open, the only time I've ever seen this is on the 1996 white Shelby edition... Is this something ever optioned on a Gen 2 Viper

Autoform did something similar many years ago, Is the nose Fibreglass or Thermoset Polyurethane the OEM Noses are T/P

Might be someone played around with it to get more airflow to the rad?

Thanks for the reply... Will be looking at the car tomorrow so not sure if it's fiberglass, SMC, TPO, TP or PPO yet... will know when I see it tomorrow, only have the pics online and can't add pics to the post through my phone but again looks just like the 96 Shelby Viper bumper with a grill installed in the opening and does not look like a cut/modified stock bumper so assuming it's aftermarket replacement if a stock bumper like that wasn't available

Take a look on Autoforms website or F/B page under their timeline photos, there's a pic of a red / silver viper with a similar nose

    That doesn't look too bad

Looks like a modified stock nose to me.

I would be asking lots of questions

Yep gonna be and thanks again, I just have a hard time believing it's a modified stock bumper as there is absolutely no signs of work in the areas you would have to cut out and fill, if you look close at the area against the hood there is a small false edge along the gap line which means it is more than likely a thurmo or thurmoset plastic and not fiberglass or SMC which would be hard to cut and modify without seeing something especially in Az sun and heat so assuming the bumper was built and purchased this way... will know more tomorrow and thanks again

Can't really tell yet just from the pic but looks like a louver style grill insert and not part of the actual bumper

Yep just emailed with him, he said prior owner installed the Shelby style bumper and stripes which are vinyl so can be easily removed, asked the manufacturer of bumper and if he had the original so waiting to hear back, if he has no original it was clearly damaged... Thanks again all

Yeah it does look good but it's not stock and my friend who is looking for one is patient and frankly very picky and will probably keep searching as the guy doesn't have the original bumper, we are both car guys and owned and built and still have many cars so bringing it back and painting the front end is not that big of a deal, I work with BASF teaching OEM certification classes for 16 years and he was with PPG and now with Devilbiss so all the means to make it right we have (booth paint& materials etc) but he wants one he doesn't have to touch and the silver is not top on his list for color so again I'm quite certain he will continue looking, thanks again

Yep actually already have a line on one here in Az, my buddy still wants to see it, I think it's more about the silver over the bumper... there is a red one in SF he's talking with as well, thanks Dave

I have a spare Roe that would look sweet through that bumper opening...
