Destroyed oil pan due to rock

Bad day in the Viper. Doing some Canyon driving with some friends today when out of a corner was a good size rock. Hit the rock and destroyed the front splitter, oil pan, oil pickup, transmission inspection plate, and belly pan. After hitting the rock the car did spin due to oil on the tires. Engine stalled during spin.

Very worried about engine damage due to losing all my oil due to the damage although I do not think it ran very long (seconds) after the hit. Does not appear any debris made it into the engine but will not know until I remove the oil pan and windage tray.

Thoughts on sourcing parts and how I should go about determining/inspecting for engine damage?

Assuming it was mostly idling for those seconds until shutdown, you might be OK. Pull some bearing caps and inspect them. You might be able to roll bearings in the bottom end and get going again.

If you tried to maintain rpm until your tires went squirrelly, then with my best Dudley Moore accent from Arthur -"it's a goner."

There was a post recently, elsewhere, of a similar incident of damaging the oil pan on a Gen 2 due to running over a big rock in the middle of the lane. I just took a look at that post again, and although there was discussion with insurance about totaling it, it appears that it may have been repaired. In any event, this should be covered under your insurance policy if you decide to claim it.

I will definitively look into this. I have it all pulled apart and do have some frame rail damage so thinking she might be a write off. Will post pics later.

I’d be calling my insurance adjuster tomorrow. I wouldn’t want to start chasing parts just to find it’s got bigger issues without it being on their dime... It doesn’t take very long with zero oil pressure to do expensive things.

I agree. Claim was opened as flatbed was on its way. I am more worried about left rear frame rail then the engine at this point.

You are very lucky to have a pull point with threads in it RIGHT WHERE YOU NEED IT! I'd bet a competent frame shop can work that back out for you.

Was there a big oily mess that you cleaned up before the pics?
11 qts is a log of oil!!

No cleanup, that is how it looked when I got it up in the air. 11qts of oil on back tire makes for a pretty easy 540 spin lol.
