Squeal From Front End When Low Speed Turning

I have developed a squeal in the front end of my 2014. It is really noticeable when I start from a stop and make a turn at the same time. It has started to become more persistent the more that I drive it. It doesn't sound like brake squeal(but maybe they are slightly rubbing), it's hard to describe but it not as high pitched as brake squeal. Has anyone experienced this or have an idea what it could be? I am out of warranty so figured I would try here first before paying to have it diagnosed.

is it wheel skip you are feeling, this is inherit in RWD cars especially when the steering wheel is cranked all the way left or right. Its basically understeer at low speeds

I don't think it is. I will try and get a video of it soon and post.

I get a squeal from somewhere when going over bumps in the road. Happens more often then not. Still not sure what it is.

Assuming that you are going to put your car on a lift to thoroughly check brakes for wear and foreign material...as well as suspension components...here are a couple of other considerations: P/S pulley or pump? How is your serpentine belt and other associated pulleys ?

acoustics do weird things on cars... consider it might be the differential making the noise if its low on anti-slip addative (it burns that additive up as the car drives.. replacment schedule i believe to bhe 18000miles.

I will be doing this yes. It only makes the squeal when the car is moving so not sure if it would be the belts or pump, but I'm not sure.

I did think of this. I'm currently at 20,000 km or 12,000 miles.

I just have started hearing this as well on mine. But for me it only does it on start up right turns with the wheel cracked all the way. It sounds like its coming from the steering pump to me.

Check power steering fluid level. Also check serpentine belts to make sure they are tight and haven't stretched.

Consider changing it anyway. The diff fluid should be replaced every three years.

Did you try greesing your greese fittings? Sounds old skool but it has them!

    Fluid good and belt tight.

Greased them really good about a month ago. 600 km driven since.

Mine does it only at low speeds turning right. I only notice it pulling into my garage. The guys at Tomball Dodge couldnt recreate the noise. But it happens everytime i pull into my parking spot.

So did a thorough inspection of everything last night. PS fluid was good, belt was good, brakes and suspension seemed fine, and all the grease fittings had ample grease. I took a mechanic for a ride to see if he had any ideas. It takes a bit for the car to start making the noise so went down the highway for a bit and then drove around town. Took about 20 minutes to start making the noise. So the car or tires have to be warmed up for the noise to happen. It happens when I am turning the wheel lots or even slightly. As soon as I straighten out the car the noise stops. The mechanic said definitely not wheel bearing or brake noise. He thinks that it is my tires squealing as they turn especially since the noise only started once the tires were warmed up.

Easy way to rule that out is to check if it makes the noise in the rain

Never thought of that, thanks! But now I have to go for a drive in the rain.

I get the same behavior at slow speed turns in parking lots. Sounds like something needs to be greased but I am yet to try and track it down.

What you describe EX1 is classic tire skip.

Pretty simple, with wide tires each turn has two different turn radii (inside/outside edge), one has to slip. The sharper the turn, the larger the diff is between the two radii. The converse is a bicycle tire, the radii are almost the same

Just take your hose and wet down the driveway or a piece of the street by your home.

You're getting good advice from the guys above.

I do believe it's likely simply tire skip, indicative of cars with very wide tires and alignments that cause understeer at (very) low speed. Keep in mind this very thing does also change with time (developing/getting worse), much like you mentioned, as things that change (like tire wear) can cause it happen more as tires get older/more worn. Your alignment also has a lot to do with it (and that doesn't mean the alignment is bad, only that it's aggressive enough to affect it). Given it's a type of problem you can reproduce and test, I sense you'll get to the bottom of it.

Here is a video I captured of it tonight. Started making the sound without turning the wheels.

    Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

    Another video.

    https://youtu.be/o2eeyKjxsy4

I'm really stumped, it almost sounds like the brakes are faintly rubbing but I'm not 100% sure.

Please let me know if you can't see the videos as those are the first two videos I have ever added to youtube lol.

Well, that was my first reaction, listening to the videos. I would drive the car with that noise happening, and then lightly apply the brakes, possibly without letting off of the gas. If that stops the noise, yes, I would guess that the pads are making the noise.
