Real world gas mileage on the new Dodge trucks?

Anyone have any stats? I maybe looking at getting a gas truck with the largest cab in that class or going diesel. Any reviews? Good and the Ugly?

Buddy bought a 1500 8 speed hemi 2 weeks, ago, buddies dad bought one 2 weeks ago, coworker bought one yesterday. So far all of them love the truck. I will see what kind of mileage they are getting. I am sure it will go up a bit once they break in.

I myself really want a new Power Wagon with the 6.4 Hemi, but they have the 6 speed trans.

Just bought a RAM 3500 Crew Cab, SRW, short bed with the Diesel. I've only driven about 500 miles in it - most of this in Chicago traffic. The truck reports 15.5 MPG.

That is better than my 2007 1500 Dodge Ram MegaCab. I am getting 12 mpg. I love the Megacab but need better gas mileage.

I have a 2013 4x4 Hemi crew cab w/ 8-speed automatic. I'm averaging around 19 mpg, mixed about 80% highway. It averages about 2 mpg better than the previous Hemi/2wd truck I had before. New truck already has 12K miles on it, since last May.

I know the reg crew cab trucks get better mileage than the megacab version. I just love the room in the Megacab! Just bought my wife a 2014 Subaru Outback and got rid of the Mercedes CLS and the Outback gets about 21mpg...so wow..trucks that are getting 19mpg! (I think the Outback weighs 4,200lbs, has flat 6 and all wheel drive which probably explains the bad gas mileage).

If you get a new Megacab and want gas, get the 6.4 hemi. The 6.4 has MDS. I am sure it will ride and tow much better than your current 1500 MC and get better mileage to boot.

What year did they have the MDS?

Just not in the 2500 or the Mega Cab 1500 Hemis.

2014 with the new 6.4 Hemi.

Engine talk starts at about the 3 and a half minute mark.

Yes. That is what I really wanted, but I couldn't wait a year to buy another truck. The 1/2-ton diesel Ram was awarded Motor Trend truck of the year, and averages 28 mpg. Only $3K more than a Hemi.

BTW, there are 3 different 4-door cab configurations. Quad cab, Crew cab, and Mega cab. The Crew has a lot of rear seat room. Mega is more like a limo, but just extra leg room that isn't needed anyways.

The 1500 diesel, uses the 3.0 VM diesel that is in the Grand Cherokee.

Honestly, if it's anything like the 2.8 VM diesel that was in my Liberty, it would be real easy to eat up another $3k in maintenance and repairs, especially after 100k. Around here diesel is quite a bit more than gasoline. I am not sure I would take a diesel these days, especially pay $3k more for one.

Makes more sense. I'd prefer a diesel but yeah with it being more expensive it is hard to justify

In my 2013 2500 mega cab with a cummins and auto shifter and 3.42 gears I get 18 average. However that's going 75. In my old 5.9 with 3.73 and stick shift I could get in the low 20s but you speed was limited to around 60. After that your rpms went up and mileage went down. Buy a diesel and never look back. It holds resale like none other and plus you got 350 hp and 800 lb ft of twist.
