Having the car detailed, and the guy asked me if the piece that surrounds the rear taillights is plastic or more like a material that say the body is made from?

If it’s painted it’s urethane the plasticky material to use for typical bumper cover materials

Yes the rear valence surround (part that surrounds the tail lights) is a plastic urethane. It is painted though in Black on GTS cars and the body color on SRT cars. There is an option to get that in Carbon Fiber but the weave would be exposed.

If the reason for the question is “do I polish it?” Yes, its a clear coat piece regardless of color.
