    Pirelli Contact info

Back when Pirelli was offering a deal on P ZERO's to members of the club I bought a set. Then just before the deal ended I bought another set and stored them in my garage. Well now the time has come to install the second set and I was informed today by the tire shop that rears that Pirelli set me are 18" dia. In all reality both the front and rear tires are a different size.

    First set
    295/30 ZR 18
    335/30 ZR 19

    Second set
    285/30 ZR 18
    335?30 ZR 18

I can live with the front tires but the back will not work. Yes I know I should have checked at the time I received them. I now no longer have the contact info and I can not find the invoice. I would imagine that I have had these tires sitting in my garage for over a year now. What do you guys think? Am I stuck with the wrong rears.

Yeah, unfortunately I think you are stuck. eBay. I bet the invoice even says 19 inch, But you would figure they would have your information on file If you were to call them.

They should have been 355/30/19 not 335

There are a few guys in the FB pages looking for 18" rears. You can sell them for your cost or more easily. PM sent. The guy lives close to you in Cali

And they aren't making these tires... I was told for a while by the Tirerack guys. I went with the sport cup 2's.
what a joke Pirelli is. Even my usual tire contact said they are famous for this type of nonsense.

They occasionally make a run of tires. They closed the U.S. plant that made the tires so now they're made in Italy. The plant is in the process of re-tooling from making winter tires to summer tires and should have a run within the next couple of months. We put an order in with a tire vendor here in Houston on March for 2 sets and the guy there calls his Pirelli rep every 30 days to check on status. It's gone from 90+ days to 60-90 to now 60 days so our fingers are crossed we get the tires this summer. I suspect they're waiting on a backorder list that's big enough to warrant another tire run but that's just my feelings.

Ah, the good old days when the CLUB was competing against its own sponsors by selling tires (and parts) .....

Why not sell them right here to 18" guys? [What are date codes---2012??]

PartsRack can offer you 3 x 18-19 tire options.............

According to TireRack from a conversation last Thursday, New due is date is Late JULY! I was afraid to ask him what YEAR!

I call frequently to find out status (or lack thereof). The tire situation is now beyond ridiculous. I know Jon B has a 18-19 application,, but I personally do not want to settle for something else.
No offense to Beth, but I find it a bit incredulous that it takes Pirelli 2 winters and over 15 months to retool for tires...

Beth, shouldn't this be an issue that the VOA gets involved in? If the tire situation continues we will have to park our cars and not drive them (at least not in the rain). Yes I know we can go with R888Rs or Cup 2s (or Kumhos for the ACR) but none of them are great in the rain. I had to buy tires from Tirerack for the One Lap of America and the only tires I could get in stock sizes were a mixed set of Michelins (PS2s in front and PSSs in back). R888Rs, Kumhos, and Cups are illegal for the event. While the mixed compound Michelins worked well in the dry they were horrifying in the rain.

The VOA represents thousands of Viper owners and that should carry some clout with the tire manufacturers. Personally I would love for Michelin to introduce the PS4 in our stock sizes (295/30/18 and 355/30/19). I believe that would be better than the PZeros. I would suggest the club's leadership reach out to Michelin and Pirelli and ask them to make tires. Some of us go through several sets a year. Maybe pushing SRT to get involved could help.

why not get tires in 285/35/18 and 345/30/19, even slightly narrower sizes in PSS were way better than junk pzeros in factory widths

So... any resolution here from JonB?

He felt we should both take some of the responsibility in this as he wrote below.

You OKd the order and paid for them, and I shipped promptly. In an case, we shipped you what we invoiced, and neither one of us noticed.

He offered to ship me a new set of Michelins if I ship the set of Pirelli's I have to Texas on my dime and I agreed.

I would like to add that this is the first and only problem I have ever had with JonB and at this stage of the game he was under no oblation to do anything. To give you some idea of how much I have come to trust this man in the last ten years. Just a couple of months back I was tired of having to deal with all the brake dust I was getting from the pads on my 2010. I simply emailed him a request for a set of brake pads with an outline of what I use this car for as well as my credit card info and told him to ship them. He sent me just what I needed.

Interestingly I attended a Tire Tech Session hosted my Maurice for NorCal VOA members this Sunday at a local tire shop. I had heard there would be a someone there from Pirelli to talk to us about tires. As soon as I arrived I spotted this man and made a bee line over to him before the session began and grilled him about the need for Viper size tires and the lac of availability. I mentioned that maybe at the very least his company should let Viper owners know if and when tire production mite start again. His reply was that he was from the R&D side of the company and that he didn't have any answers for me.
After the shop gave there presentation it was time for this gentleman to take the floor and give his talk. He made a couple of jokes about everybody in the room wanting to know about the availability issue and they all did. But gave no answers. A short time into his talk one of the members asked about the chances of Pirelli coming out with a tire to deal with the problems the ACR owners are having with front tires. To this he went into how time consuming and the expense of the R&D of such an undertaking for a discounted model of car would make it out of the question

It was at this time I just had to make the comment that we can't get Pirelli to make tires that they already have the recipe for. This started a dialog that everybody in the room was very interested in. Maurice took the lead in the conversation and when it was all said and done this gentleman is going to see what can be done and report back to Maurice or at least that's the way I heard it. The Pirelli guy made mention of the reason that they sold tires though the club was because they had a surplus due to slow Viper sales and it sounded like they haven't made them sense. This part left me pretty much disenchanted with the whole thing. Here you have a company that gets on board to design a tire for a new model car the Gen 5 knowing from the start that this is a small volume platform in the first place. Only to leave the buyers of said car with out replacement tires because of the small volume sales.

THIS. Duhhh... record setting supercar tire. Not "Settling" really. Great in rain, but makes 20' high rooster-tails at 130 mph.

I have a set set aside for MAD, at essentially an even trade for the 18" swap we also sold to a willing and happy buyer in TX.

Has VOA chatted with Michelin, since considering the 25 years of the Snake, they were the standard tire for a much greater time than Pirelli? As noted the Pilot Super Sports are available now, and if one checks the specs they are virtually the same size as the ( on paper) larger width Pirellis. We just put a set on a used 08 Vert and they look and work great. Pretty damn sure Jon B. can get a set for folks who need a solid street tire , that is great in the wet or dry!

Bill, the Pilot Super Sport is discontinued by Michelin so I can't image they will have them around for much longer. It was replaced by the Pilot Sport 4S and the widest they make those in a 19 inch is 325/30 ZR19 and in 18 inch 285/35 ZR18. The fronts can probably be stretched but no way the rears get close unless they make a 345.

PSS are not discontinued by Michelin. How can one say that when they still make PS2s (maybe not in viper sizes) which the PSS "replaced"

Where are you getting this information? I just received Super sports with a 2019 build date
