    Squeaking doors

Anyone have a problem with squeaking doors? I had the hinges replaced under warranty a couple years ago because they squeaked really bad when opened/closed. Now they are doing it again. Whats a fix for this??

    Thanks

You might try taking off the panel right in front of the hinge, then apply a little anti-seize to the articulating surfaces. I have used white lithium grease in the past...but, it did not always work...and, if it did, it tends to be short term.

I watched Tom Sessions change a hinge on a 16 last week...he decided to try the anti-seize on the new hinge.

Evidently my car did this before I owned the car. A white thick grease was used and it's never squeaked again.

Same thing, Hinges replaced. Issue hasn't come back but I'd recommend greasing it.

I've used white lithium grease as well and it solves the issue. Haven't had any squeaks since I applied it 2 years ago.

Where are you guys applying the grease? Are you removing the hinge and coating the inside pins.

It's not the hinge that made the noise in my case, but rather the leaf spring in front of it. As mentioned in a previous post, it sits behind the small panel adjacent to the door hinge. I loosened the panel to give myself enough clearance to drop a pipe-cleaning brush down there covered in white lithium grease. Hasn't squeaked in 2 years since then.

I didn't want to bother with removing anything, I lightly sprayed it into the hinge and moved the door back and forth a few times to work it in. Not the most professional method but it fixed my squeak

I used Wurth HHS plus lubricant. I put a towel between the bottom of the door and side sill. I sprayed the hinge, worked the door back and forth. This got rid of 95% of the squeaking. The next day the hinge was totally free and not squeaking. That was 1 1/2 years ago. The best $25 I spent.
I really didn't want some body guy at the dealership screwing with the car and opening a can of worms.

Fortunately, all of our own hinges are working well...noting that they get lubed st least annually.

Fluid Film works well for this application FYI.

The hinge on my 14 GTS made noise (more like a creaking sound than a squeak) almost since new. I finally decided enough was enough. Grease, WD-40, whatever, did not stop the noise. Hinge was replaced by dealer. Tech showed me the hinge afterwards and it looked worn out. I've heard about others with similar issues with the hinges. Maybe the hinge was defective from new or maybe it was misaligned on install. Either way the only fix for me was hinge replacement.

The problem I have is not the noise, it's the fact that I feel the doors don't open wide enough without some extra force "feeling like I'm going to break the damn thing" so I just don't open them that far.

The grease was just pushed into the hinge and let it work itself in.

    Mine as well...
Regardless of good or bad, Viper is consistantly consistant when it comes to quality. Someone’s issue is not an issue anymore cause it’s already everybody’s issue. Lol...

Hinge replacement or not, it will eventually start to squeak again, mine was replaced and already there is a part where it stops and then you need extra effort to fully open. I plan on putting some grease on the parts to alleviate this issue.

It is a moving part. Moving parts need to be serviced sooner or later.

did you have it replaced under warranty? I'd be curious what the replacement cost is out of warranty.

Nah, it's just a shitty design ala dodge car. This car is still fucking new with less wear and tear compared to your typical car. I daily drive a 20 year old car that sits in the sun all day. The doors squeak a little but it's easy to open. We cannot make excuses for this shit.

I tried white lithium on teh first set of hinges and that didnt fix it. I guess i'll try removing the panel and greasing them.

My driver side was replaced under warranty after about a year. It started again about a year later.

To follow up on this thread, just applied some lithium grease to the leaf spring tensioner behind the hinge cover, and the noise is completely gone and the door opens smoothly. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the hinge is not what causes the creaking noise, it is the leaf spring tensioner that detents the door at various opening positions.

Did not take any, but once the hinge cover is off it will be very obvious. The hinge cover is not hard to remove, but it does require loosening the side sill to slide it out with the black grill installed.
