Any value in old tires

Hello folks!

So my 17" PS2's have aged out...half tread left and yet they're February 2009 date code...yup, a decade old. Shows how much I really need to start driving this car.

Nonetheless, I thought about keeping 1 FR and 1 RR in the event that I get a flat in the future and can't find a replacement, just to keep the car temporarily on wheels, but it appears that there's still plenty of "new" tires out there, unlike the squeeze a few years ago.

So before I let Discount Tire toss these out, is there any value for these for anyone? A cheap set of tires specifically for a toasty burnout, or a cheap set to keep your garaged car on wheels for the winter (or your car bubble...), etc?

I would imagine the answer to be no, but I struggled with tossing my originals (98). Just brought the fronts to the dump last weekend, but kept the rears. First - too cool to look at. Second, may stack them and make a handy round table to set beers on. Something. I get the dilemma, I really do.

Original factory tires and exhaust systems are close to the holy grail for Boss-9's and other high-end classic Mustangs & Mopars that are pure show cars. I seriously doubt that Vipers will ever attain that status but if you have the room to store them you might find they are worth something someday...

Make a tire rack in the garage and put them on it. That's what I did with my original 96 tires and rims when I put the 97 forged rims on my car to retain the original look.

I saved mine with the intention of making garden planters and ended up with a trashy backyard for years. Finally dumped them last year. Recycle them unless you engage your project right away

I bought a classic motorcycle about 180 miles from where I lived that had original classic tires. While I did plan on changing the tires, I decided to ride the bike home. Needless to say, about 10 miles into the ride, the rear blew up. I had to drive back home, pick up my truck and make the round trip again. So for all those touting the original classic tires, I say phuuuut! Tires and brakes are supposed to be replaced. Don't get caught up in that antique hype because if one of those tires blows up and rips a fender, you'll curse yourself forever.

If you give them away to a friend. Be sure to warn him about leaving a bare tire on brand new top of the line off white carpet. Unless you want his wife to blame YOU for the donut ring left on new said carpet. Telling her that her carpet now has Viper provenance does not help either. Just Sayn...

Hello guys,

Thanks for the feedback. These tires are just too cool - I wanted to do something with them, like a wall decoration or something. But at the end of the day, like said above, if you don't do something with them immediately, then the only thing they do is take up space/trash. And then it's a pita to find a place to throw them away since they're tires.

At the end of the day, I had Discount Tire keep them.
