My pride has almost healed Gen 3 oil change assist

I made a post about stripping the head of my oil drain plug some weeks ago. Good advice from here as always, but nothing I could do laying under the car would move that damn plug. That's when it's good to have a lift and trusted mechanic nearby. And he didn't even make that much fun of me for not being able to do it in my own garage.

Admittedly, I was scared of making matters worse and having to use the oil pan gasket I bought, just in case. Didn't need it, but I was prepared. I'm one of those who needs to change oil due to time, not mileage. All good now - Fresh oil and Viper filter. Pride will recover, right?! I'm tempted to go loosen the new drain plug just to show it I can!

How badly did you strip it? Sometimes you can switch from a 6 to 12 point socket/box wrench and be okay. In case you accidentally strip nuts/bolts in the future, these work well:

Gen3, mistakes happen! Don't let it bother you and just go slower the next time you run into a difficult situation.

Beautiful G3, I had 2 '06 red/silver coupes, at least 1 ended up in TX. What's the last 6 digits of the vin? Thanks, Mike

I've installed superchargers, and most anything else that can be considered bolt-on over the past 35 years. But the initial oil change on my Viper was my kryptonite. I was afraid of making it worse, stranding it in my garage. The allure of a lift overcame me ... Guilty! Laying under them on jack stands just isn't as fun as it used to be. RedTan, last six are 100755. One of yours?

Put the pipe wrench down and step away from the Coupe..l0l Up on jack stands there is limited leverage. Its not easy to crack the plug. Ive considered a drain valve but my OCD does not allow me to put thousands of $$ in the hands of a drain valve. Glad you got it out with no major issues.

Yeah, I'm with you there. I'd be checking that drain valve every time I went to the car ... And that wouldn't be a good look at cars shows or cruises! How embarrassing would it be to admit I felt like I was going to give myself a hernia laying down trying to break that thing loose?! And when the bolt-grab spun and mangled it, I threw in the towel. Lift please!

Gen 3, no not one of my old ones. 1 was real nice, 1 was real nice but got totaled (glad that's not yours!!) Many of the red/silvers were SRT school cars. If you have a car fax see if it was delivered or serviced by a dodge dealer in/near Sebring Fl.

RedTan, that would have been cool ... So now I won't bother asking you to send me what you have on the car! My '06 coupe came from Carlsbad, New Mexico. It found its way to Spring, Texas in 2014. It eventually found its way to my Houston home in April 2017. Now you make me want to track down my prior Gen 2, see if the guy in Indiana kept it for a while after buying it from me. Sapphire blue with silver stripes, beautiful GTS.

Always use a 6 point socket.
