    Paint Bubble

Last year I purchased an 01 GTS, yellow. The car has 23K miles. On the top there are a few small bubbles in the paint about half the size of an eraser. Can anyone tell me what may have caused these? If this a problem with some Vipers or colors......... or is this unique to my car. Appreciate any feed back.
    Regards

Has the car been repainted? If so, it sounds like poor prep work. My 01 has original paint and no such issues. Mine is not yellow.

    Known problem on some cars,
Basically its to do with how the primer was laid onto the bodyshell at the factory, my friend also has a 01 GTS with the same problem, I also know of it happening on a 1999 Silver GTS.
They look like moisture bubbles in the paint, warm the paint up and sometimes they reduce in size.

Sanding back the clear coat and top coat is not good enough, you have to go right back to the skin.
So if you want to tackle it its a big job, or just leave it as a viper bubble

Can you post pics? I also highly recommend buying a Universal Clip-type LED Cellphone microscope #9882-W. Very handy device for all small defect ID.

Fatboy is correct, though rare, this problem showed up on some vehicles back around 1999 to 2002. Unfortunately not an easy fix, but since we are also discussing an 18 year old car , I would suggest taking it to a high quality paint shop and see if by a small chance this was caused from some other outside element/corrosive?

When I had my 1998 GTS I had the same issue on the hood. Over the 13 months that I owned the car, three quarter-sized bubbles appeared on the hood. They seemed to pop-up directly after washing the car, and never went away. It drove me crazy because my paint was excellent overall aside from those bubbles. Like the others have said, I'm pretty sure you basically have to re-paint the entire panel to truly fix this, which is why I never addressed mine and just left them as is.

Thanks for the various responses. I beleive the car was on the Florida shore for several years and I thought the salt air may have been the issue, but sound like there is a good chance this may have been a manufacture paint issue.. The spots are small and only a few.......... hardly noticeable. I will probably do nothing about it unless the issue grows.

Where are you located? Search out a high end refinisher to adequately root cause the bubble. You want to know if it is delamination to the substrate or inner coat adhesion or other potential developing paint issues.
