    VIR Full Course on Kumhos

First event of the year for me at VIR. Decided I wanted to run the car on Kumhos to see what times I would could get with Street tires.

It ran very well, 1:54.8 was my best official time. on the attached Video my predictor was on a 1:53.xx when I got held up cost me a lot of time. it was still a great time.

Thanks for helping out those of us with Cabin Fever here in the Artic Midwest. Nothing like setting a record for snow from December to February , in Nebraska, to cause one to be cranky for Spring!? Love racing vicariously with those of you who post videos and will echo everyone's sentiment -- that is a killer time. RacerJRP notes what I always find confusing, how folks can say a Viper does not sound good, as they must not be really listening? The ACR sounds incredible , wicked, and is music to my ears ( and many others socked in with heavy snowfall ) this time of the year! Thanks so much for posting!

I echo Bill's comments, although I do not have to live in the Arctic Midwest That was an awesome lap, excellent low-drama driving! You would have been at the top of the heap in the VRL against the fastest Comp Coupes. I say cage it and race it!

If you don't cage it , per Desert Venom's comments, I do hope you are running Time Trials with NASA or SCCA --- you be damn fast !!!!

one of the reasons I was running Kumhos was to see if I would like to enter a few events this year running with stock tires.

That thing sounds like a beast! What exhaust do you have on there?

    Great driving by the way!

Great lap. Thanks for sharing! Any idea what sort of time the same drive would be on say Michelin or Pirelli Slicks?

  14. #14
I would be unfair to guess at that. everyday times can very a lot. I know the car will do a 1:51 on the Kuhmos. I believe slicks will be 1-1.5 sec faster.

So you would say slicks are only good for a second or so over the Kumhos over that length of track? Wow really? It's incredible because under normal comparisons with say Sport Cup 2's slicks would be be good for say 3 or 4 seconds.. Maybe the Kumhos are just that good...

Gary, Kumho's legal for the events you're entering? I have heard tell in some TT circles they are getting banned?

51's would be really something. Where do you feel you can find the most time? Other than not having anyone in your way of course.

Great lap and thanks for sharing it!! I wish you were coming with us to Hastings this year for the Rendezvous. I am pretty sure it would tip the scales in favor of the East!!

For the events that I am entering the Kumhos are still OK 200TW is only restriction.

@stradman I do think the Kumhos are that good, BUT they are "that" good for a couple laps. They also do not last as long as Slicks. I believe all tires are the same the money lap (most traction you will get) is always around lap 4 give or take a lap. once you pass that you are now on a down hill slop.

140+ up the esses... god damn.

I know VIR well. I’m a 2:14ish in my tt5 preped S2000, this video wants me to take my Viper there.

The downforce is so apparent in so many places. I wish I held out 1 year and picked up an ACR instead of my T/A 1.0ish Viper
