Oil pressure sensor failed on me this morning

So I get home from work this morning and pulling into the driveway the oil pressure goes to ZERO!
No rattling from lifters or anything like that. So I knew it has to be the sensor. So after I wake up I run to the closest Dodge Dealer and they have one in stock. $90 I am sure that is a VIPER TAX on top of that $30 piece..... Looks so easy to get to. But Darn that thing scraped me up and gave me hell. Luckily I had a socket that fit over it but still tight area. And getting the pigtail off was a bit of a pain too. But Again Luckily I had a special little tool that looks like a screwdriver handle with a sharp hook... so I was able to pull the red tab up to release the pigtail. Took me about 30 minutes of cussing but I got it replaced. Oil Pressure good again! Glad I did not have to have her Towed to Tomball just for something simple like this...................If this happens to any of you guys. the RED button looking thing needs to be pulled up to release the pigtail. Later!

Did the pressure fluctuate wildly - or just go straight to zero and stay there?

I had the same experience. Looked easy to get to..... 45 minutes later, when I was done I had a sore back and looked like I had just baptised a cat!

I also replaced mine this past weekend. Mine was actually reading high at idle (nearly 100) and then dropping low during acceleration. New sensor along with fresh oil and filter and the car is back to normal. That sensor is definitely in a challenging location, particularly if you have big hands. I got mine off of Amazon for $52.

my 04 it went to 100 and stayed there. I also had a socket that went over it but changing it is still difficult. Now it's time to change the oil lines with after market...fun times ahead

Get the ones with the quick disconnects on both sides. Makes it somewhat easier but still a pain. They are pricey though. One other thing, the ends of the lines pivot but are very stiff when new so it might not appear that they do. Had my Viper tech confused for a while until he figured that out. Yea, I didn't do them myself since the OEM lines were leaking and were going to be replaced under warranty anyway I let him change them. I did end up with a new set of OEM lines though since they had to order them to do the warranty repair.
