    Fastest top speed any distance

Does anyone have any verifiable information on the fastest top speed for any Gen Viper with any modifications in any distance from whatever to the salt flats? I've heard 242 MPH was the fastest any Viper has ever gone but couldn't find any proof of it and haven't heard of any speed faster than that. Please let me know what you guys have seen or heard. Thanks,

Well, Sal in his Gen 2 has the standing 1/2 mile record at 240'ish for a viper and possibly RWD. I'd like to know if anyone has gone faster as well.

I believe that run was 237 you’re talking about, haven’t heard of anyone going faster than that in a viper, any distance...

I've done 235 plus MPH but it was in 2.3 miles, I hope to break 250 sometime this year. I cant imagine doing that in a half mile, that's serious

The Canaska-Southwind GTS-R clocked 242 down the Mulsanne straight at LeMans in 1996. That was running a GT-1 spec Caldwell engine.

Can you explain the engine in more detail, was it a modified Viper V10, sorry I'm just not familiar with it and this sounds like the 242 MPH number I have heard about

235 is intense! 250 would most likely take home the viper record but would have to confirm. Where are you going to try this at?

On the space shuttle runway, that's where I did the 235, at 2.3 miles I have a little less than a mile to stop it. Its smoothest exterior concrete surface in the world which helps a lot

What about this thing that was in the Connor Avenue plant? Surely someone has done land speed racing in a Viper before...

Any close up of the plaque that's in front of it, that Viper looks like it would cut the air really well

I think the fastest Viper ever was a Gen 2 car that was painted blue with the American flag painted on top. I want to say Mike aka 98 RT/10 owned it after it ran 250+ in the salt flats. It has been a really long time so I am not 100% sure on the details but I am almost positive it went over 250.

Ron Misjak Sr and Ron Jr built their SVSi Twin Turbo Stryker based on a Gen II GTS...it was fast and quick per a friend who took a ride in it about 1999 or 2000. It had a very impressive, distinctive paint job.

The target top speed was 300 mph...though they fell a little short ( by 53 mph) last I heard....BUT, 247 mph is a real accomplishment in my opinion...especially at that time.

You guys are killing me, I was all set to run 245 MPH and now I need to find 3 more MPH, lol. Back to the drawing board.

This is the car I plan to make the run with, obviously I'm removing all the downforce. I figure as far as safety goes this is the one I need to run, fully caged, fuel cell, fire suppression, etc. I've done a few shakedown runs with the aero on, totally stock X motor and took it to 188 MPH. Very solid car and I expect with the mods planned I will break my personal best of 235 MPH but I don't expect to make the record attempt until late this year. Open to listen to any suggestions regarding this, appreciate the help. David

So while I'm waiting to get the black Viper ready for it's 250 MPH attempt we set up a day to have some fun and accomplish something my friend has wanted to do. So on March 9th we went out to Space Florida with Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds and make some runs. I took my 2010 Toxic Orange Viper out there to do that. It's 848 RWHP 857 torque nitrous car. Well the first half of the day went beyond fantastic, my friend Scott ( 30 years old ) who found out he has leukemia back in November 2018 had a bucket list item of driving a car to 200 plus MPH in a mile. I'm beyond ecstatic to say he did 201+ out of the box and followed that up on the next run with a 202+. Scott was a big part of this car doing the 235 MPH in the past and he has countless hours wrenching on this Viper. He has been in the hospital several times for weeks on end doing chemo etc. His bone marrow transplant is happening this week and he is going in on a high after this weekend. Once he recovers he will be back turning wrenches and in the car for another mile looking to break a record.

After that perfect morning the rest of the day was a bit of a struggle for me and the Viper. They set up the timing lights for the 2.7 mile runs while we had lunch and let the cars cool some. I was really looking forward to maybe breaking my old record of 235 with a 240. I've done all the math and the gearing, tires, HP and torque is there to do that. The first run was going to be a somewhat easy one I'm thinking, I leave the line, just rowing thru the gears and thinking...…...holy &#%$ this thing has never pulled like this before and I'm realizing that 240 is entirely possible. I actually ease out of the throttle some thinking I need to time the finish line so the car crosses still pulling. Then the car goes into limp mode and I abort that run...….UGH! Set up for run 2 and I'm back on the line with the limp mode issue resolved. This time I'm thinking ease out and go maybe 3/4 of a mile and then hammer it to work out the timing at the lights. I run thru the gears not realizing I'm screwing up the nitrous programmer which is looking for max RPM and the 500 RPM drop to count the gear changes as we lock out gears 1 to 3 and only run the nitrous from about 180 MPH on in 4th and 5th. So I now have screwed up this run completely and it winds up being a NA run at 201 MPH...……….2nd UGH! So back to the start, more time to let the car cool off. We line up again, all systems on go, flag drops and I have decided I'm going to just run hard thru the entire 2.7 miles. I'm 3/4 of the way thru the run, the car feels amazing, tach is at 6300 which is 230 MPH and it's still pulling hard. I scan oil pressure, tach and then across the hood constantly and this is going to be a big one! Then it all ends as the header collector comes apart and the car goes into limp mode again. I idle thru the timing lights at 215 MPH...……………..3rd #&%#@*%#&@ UGH! I limp it back to the trailer, now at this point I'm so bummed I want to just load it up and go home. My friends John and Larry step up and decide to put the header collector back together and get me back out there. They pull the sill off the car, which the open headers have cooked the paint on it. I attached a few pictures of that. They then begin to put this extremely hot header and collector back together in short order. I walk away for a little bit and come back and they are bolting the sill back on. Can't thank them enough for that, I'm sure they have numerous burns all over as a result of that. So we put 2 gallons of 104 in the tank, I ask about changing the nitrous bottles and we decide to throw the ones from the mile runs back in the car which we think has enough left in them for 1 run. We change the bottles, back to the line, waiting forever it seems for bottle pressure. Finally get there and I line up, flag drops and I'm off for what is the last run of the day. As the car accelerates I'm thinking this is it, it feels so freaking fast and it's pulling so hard that I'm convinced I'm about to pull off a 240+ MPH run and then it just falls on it's face, AFR goes super fat and I immediately know what happened, 1/2 mile short of the timing lights the nitrous ran out. I'm beyond disappointed because in the trailer are 3 totally full bottles, biggest UGH yet but as I drive back the only thing in my head is Scott ran two 200+ MPH runs and on Tuesday he has the biggest challenge of his life. This afternoon is a blip of time that in the grand scheme of things is just another life experience for me. I left there that evening totally satisfied with the day we just had. He and I will be back there again and the next time it will be even better, 250 MPH will happen in time and Scott will be a part of that achievement. In my book we had a great day.
