    Question re Fuel pump noise

    Hi Guys,
My 9.0 liter fuel pump seems to all of a sudden over the last day be making quite a loud whine- almost like a vacuum cleaner! Here is a very short video. I only turned on the accessory ignition and hadn't started it up and it makes quite a racket as you can hear.
I know I have an upgraded fuel pump with the conversion. Just want to know if anyone else has had similar experience or if this sounds normal to them?. The only thing is I couldn't hear anything else before and it has just started doing this. No fuel delivery symptoms or problems though. Car seems to run fine. Just the bloody noise! Also would anyone know if its easy to change fuel pump should I need to??

Stradman, I can't comment on the noise other than to say give Dick W a call and ask.

I've got a similar setup now that Dick designed for my new high HP G3 motor (I don't hear it, but its buried deep in my cell and I have a rear bulkhead partition). It does sound similar to my Diff pump.

Dan Cragin ran into fuel pressure level problems on mine and turned to Dick for a solution. I've got a similar set up to what their using in the 9.0L. Beefed up and bigger pumping capacity. Not sure if you're going to find a good off the self solution elsewhere that fits in the tank, pick up locations, etc. Call Dick, all the stuff in these 9.0L builds is more work in progress than 5 years of factory production with 1/2 million miles of durability testing. I'm having an issue with mine picking up fuel in long fast sweepers and Dan is working with Dick to find a solution Best wishes, Mike

Thanks for the info Mike. Yes I have liaised with Scot at Prefix. I think we'll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks and if it continues being noisy we might need to change it but as I said I'm not seeing any fuel delivery problems at least not yet.
Sorry to hear of your issues. When you say you're picking up fuel in long fast sweepers, do you mean you're experiencing some starvation? I was just wondering whether the race cars used or needed accessory Fuel sump tanks as insurance against starvation??

Yeah starvation. Long right hand sweeper at Buttonwillow weekend before last. Probably 5-6 seconds 110-120 mph, car started to miss near the end of at sweeper. No issues other than that turn. Seems when the cell gets down to about 60 litres (100 capacity), fuel isn't picking up. I've got 2 pumps, maybe you do too? One pump is filling the bucket so something's amiss. My cell has a deep "V" in the middle, your tank is flat. Probably one of these kind of issues that happens when you try something new. Dan and Dick go way back so I'm not worried, we'll figure something out. I'm going to Willow Springs in a few weeks and they have 2 right hand sweepers, one is very similar to BW but I know with a full tank I won't have a problem.

Keep us all posted on the outcome and solution, I think everyone with the 9.0L has your fuel pump set up.

You are not always going see a physical performance drop-off as the car goes lean. An a/f gauge is not a bad idea, look at Innovate, it is simple to install and you can log.

Your stock Comp Coupe basket looks a lot like the 1996 RT/10 basket

Mike, could very well be. I know from Dan its a dodge Motorsports modified G3, what they do/did for the Comp coupe's I don't know.

Want to trade it for your G1 brake kit??????
