Any 9Liter Extreme owners in here

Would love to hear what you think of it. How’s it compare to stock? Did you go heads/cam first? How’s it compare to that?

Any supporting mods needed? Recommended? How does drivability change?

    Anyone consider selling/trading theirs?

I’m kicking around many ideas but I simply can’t being myself to do a build on the orange TA... doesn’t feel right. Values have gone up and I feel like modifying it would put a halt to that. I Would love to find a Stryker painted GTS for a good price to build but I am not very patient either... and right now the ones available are significantly more than what makes sense (think a few are trying to swing for the fence and see if anyone willing to be crazy)

Thoughts? Opinions? Help a fellow viper owner through this mental conundrum.

Buy a 2013-14 base and build it to be the rocket you’re looking for. Values are reasonable and you’re going to build the motor anyways, so you shouldn’t care if it’s a re-powerd car or not. Maybe a lemon buy back would save you the cash to put TA brakes on it.

    Really?

TA values may increase but how dare stryker owners follow suit. Your perception seems a bit skewed. Nevermind the fact that the majority of stryker cars were highly optioned, and thus, a higher MSRP.

In any case, of the few H/C TAs that have sold recently, the mod didn't seem to negatively affect the selling price

But did it help the selling price? Normally you never get back anywhere near the price of the modifications.

I doubt the sellers received 100% of what they put into the car when they sold it. That said though, with Gen 5 vipers, if it’s been tore down and build, the bearing have been replaced. The bearing weigh on my mind from time to time and a part of my motivation to do a heads/cam or 9L car is to change the factory bearings.

^^^This^^^My ACR E was eating a quart of oil every 700-1000 miles, exactly why I had Arrow build the 9L on my 16 ACRE with 3K miles (insurance) not to mention the bump in hp/ tq is insane...hehehe

Please don't buy a Viper to worry about the value of it. Drive the wheels off of it.

Agreed, this is the wrong car to invest in. Especially if you drive it.

I feel like you’ve made some assumptions and created a place for friction where one isn’t necessary murpowa...

Nowhere in the statement that you quoted me saying did I say, “Stryker values cannot increase” I simply said that the people buying a car for a beautiful paint color and the folks buying a car that was a numbered limited run, record breaker brought into this world for one specific purpose, will likely care about different options differently...

This is Ofcourse only my opinion and could prove to be incorrect, but ultimately, it’s how I feel and what I believe so unless you’d like to shine some light to persuade me otherwise, I stick to my original statement... and I’d still feel better about modifying a Stryker painted car over a TA...

Regarding the recent ones with heads/cam that sold. I don’t think it hurt value exactly but I am 100% sure it narrowed the field of people who considered buying it. (I have spoken to a couple people myself that passed on them specifically for that reason)

Sapphirebob, that is precisely why I am having this conundrum. I want to just drive and build and enjoy my viper but there’s a part of my brain that feels guilty about modifying the TA. It still isn’t out of the realm of possibilities... just not the current preference.

Good points regarding the bearings parabs and space truckin. Hadn’t considered that thought process... how does your 9.0 drive compared to before when off the track? Is it still fairly road friendly or do you feel you sacrificed a lot of regular drive ability?

Well my 9.0 extreme on the road drives pretty much as it did before the modification. You just know you have a lot more under the hood when you let it rip that's all.

Stradman, do you notice a big difference in power in the lower rpm range ie. 2k thru 4k? in my stock 2014 gts, it seems like when you get to 5k rpms and higher is when you start to feel the full power.

Sorry just read this again. Wasn't a TA a track pack version of the gen V Viper before the ACR(which of course is THE ultimate track version of the Gen V Viper) came out?? Apart from the limited numbers can I ask for my own information, what exactly is otherwise so special about the TA compared to say a Stryker coloured ACR that would make the TA say more desirable or more valuable in the future-unless I am reading your words wrong? Also what sort of record breaker was the TA? Did it break multiple track records or be the fastest manual rear wheel drive car around the Nurburgring? Just want to know what is so special about the TA compared to say an ACR that's all. Please enlighten me. Also don't get me wrong. I like the TA like I do other Gen V's as well- but would like to know what makes it stand out apart from them making fewer of them. Thanks

The viper TA was released earlier than intended with the sole purpose to take back the Laguna seca record from the corvette ZR1. There was a lot of hype, press, etc around that purpose upon its release.

Personally speaking, I feel it is a middle ground for folks that don’t track their cars enough (or have the money) to buy an ACR but want to be more capable on the track than a typical GTS or SRT for example. Very purpose built edition of the viper and the limited run an numbered cars/VIN seems to bring more value to many folks.

In my opinion, the ACR is the pinnacle of performance in the viper world but based on my readings and feedback I’ve gotten, a lot of folks want something a bit more tame or with a few more “creature comforts” and the TA is a solid compromise.

Excellent analysis and, yes, the TA is a cherished and special edition. I too would be concerned about modifying it if you are worried about maintaining the highest possible resale value. However, the cost to transition into another Viper, or to pick up a second for modifying purposes, probably is not worthwhile. Plus, if you are driving your TA, then you are not maintaining the utmost resale value anyway. In that case, I say throw the heads and cam or 9L into the TA. That would be a sick car.

Scott_in_fl that isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility. That’s why I was also asking for others feedback on their 9 liter setups... ultimately it will become a matter of did the right replacement car become available before I ran out of patience. Haha!

If not there will be a nasty 9 liter extreme Orange TA that I will drive until the wheels fall off.

Still not a bad outcome haha!

Yeah, I think if you look at the economies of it all, it probably makes sense to do what you want with the TA. Buying another car is more storage space, more insurance, more sales/use taxes, etc. All of that would need to be offset by the anticipated price appreciation that would come from keeping your TA stock. But then you'd also have to drive it less (how many miles does it have on it already?), and then hope that the market does what you want within the time frame that you're willing to wait. That makes you a car investor, which is generally a losing proposition. I think you find much more happiness and certainly less out of pocket near term costs (by not having 2 cars) if you simply do what you want with the TA. Will you kick yourself in 10 years to learn that your modded TA is worth $200k and unmodded ones are going for $250k? Maybe. But I think not.

I am in the camp as Stradman and I have a similar setup with my ACR - it is beast when I want it to be but otherwise it drives similar to stock. I do love the lumpy idle now (narley sounding). I do however, need to find a a way to lower the sound level

Hey Hans did you read my recent post in the other thread? . New mufflers are awesome and I lost 11 decibels in excess noise! Check it out.

No I didn't Jack. However I took it out for about 90 minutes today and as it was dry I gave it the beans and certainly the car from a butt dyno perspective still feels as brisk as it did before. Remember though the mufflers I now have are not restrictive at all. Same size pipe all along as before from the Prefix Sportscat to tailpipe. Only difference is the central pipe within the muffler is perforated with tiny holes to allow some of the sound waves to pass through the packing material. Centrally however the flow of gases resumes unimpaired so it makes sense that there is no increased backpressure. Honestly car is now a dream to drive. Its a bit quieter no drone. Should have been that way from OEM as far as I'm concerned. Before it was just obnoxious and anti social. It's still loud by most cars standards but a touch more civilised and importantly allows me on to the tracks I want to go on. It's not quiet enough to do the quieter tracks but thats ok.

There is always the option of picking up another engine to build. Just set the original aside and then go crazy on a second engine. That stand alone engine will retain value as well if built properly and sold down the road

That's a brilliant suggestion! How much more would that cost though? I've been reluctant to modify my ACR/TA with a 9 liter because of header heat (which Prefix could wrap so that might no longer be an issue) and the fact that I would be modifying a numbered special edition. Maybe I should just buy another ACR and put a 9 liter in that.... Yea, the wife would never go for it.
