    I was 99.9% sure it was 11 quarts but wanted that 0.01. Thanks guys

    Noooo LOL. Just haven't changed the oil in a while and forgot how many quarts to bring to the dealership. I bought like 200 of them back in 2016 when Autozone had that crazy sale.

    Best you start using that stuff...with the claimed 4 year shelf life if I recall correctly

    Yeah I know. Planning on doing oil changes in 4 of my vehicles. That will use up a lot of what I have left.

    if you change your oil before its due, do you do a reset for the 'oil life'? if so, how do you do that for the gen v's?

    No oil life monitor on the Gen 5. Despite what a You Tube video produced by FCA in 2012 says.

    Would be nice if it did have the ability to test the viscosity of the oil... monitor for metal fragments- etc... why the heck doesn't every car made have that!

    viscosity isnt a definitive indicator of oil life. That would be some complicated instrumentation to measure that. Total Base Number is a much better one like what you can have Blackstone labs do. What if you run thicker oil for the track, then the car is going to freak out at a different viscosity.

    I saw this video a while back, and if you go to about the 6 minute mark, the tech goes over some procedure to reset something for the oil. if you change your own oil, is this something that we have to do? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5hi0t38oXc

    Apparently, for whatever reason, never made it to the Viper. My 2013 Dart had an oil life monitor, but not a 2013 (or any Gen) Viper. Go figure.

    Ever had a dealer lie to you saying you had no indicator so they can do a whole new oil change prematurely? Fca dealers suck, except the awesome tombal dodge/viper exchange.

    The procedure for resetting the oil life indicated in the video is the procedure that is used by other FCA vehicles but I do not believe that the Viper has this feature. If it does, it has to be one of the best kept secrets of Viper ownership. Probably not a Viper tech that told him what to do.

    Amazingly.... The oil that just came out of the car looked nearly new. And that is 5k miles and 2 year old oil. Opened up the filter, and its perfect inside also.

    Changed mine last week for the first time. (Car is now off warranty thanks to the wimpy Canadian warranty) mine hadn't seen the miles or time that yours did, but I was also shocked at how clean it was. Let it drain for almost six hours, and near the end of that time, the oil showed a little colour. That 0W-40 Penzoil is like water! Hard to see it on the dipstick!!! Took 10.4 litres.

    I have done oil changes on about 50 different cars over the years and the Viper was about the easiest and cleanest that I can recall. I love that there are no panels to remove, and that the filter hangs straight down, right at the bottom of the engine.

    I change my oil every fall - that comes out to 1200-1500 miles between oil changes. And there's no oil life monitor in any screen that I can find. Nor has my Viper tech found one.

    Question, is everybody still using the 0-40 Penzoil? I remember reading that some were considering going with 10-40.

    15/50 is an advantage if youre in the south, theres 2 immediate differences you will notice when you switch

    Much more stable oil pressure, at idle it won't go down into the 30's. And a quieter valve train.

    I am. I'm a Mobil 1 guy but after doing some research, I've found that Penzoil ranks up there with the best of them, so I'm sticking with it. I change my oil about every 2000 miles. IMO if you change your oil that frequent, I don't think it really matters which brand of synthetic oil you use.

    As for the thickness of the oil, I stay with 0-40 cause even though it can get pretty hot in Virginia, i'll drive this car in the winter. If its a sunny day and no salt on the roads, I don't care how cold it is I'm driving the car. I drove it this past Monday morning where it was a blistering 15 degrees. when I started it in the garage, the oil temp was 34. And that's why i'm afraid to go to a thicker oil. Some have even gone to 15-50. i'm sure where you live, when and how you drive plays a big factor in that. on a side note, I don't know if it was in my head, but the car felt more responsive. I noticed my IAT ranged from 37 to 41 degrees, maybe like a continuous shot of nitrous? hahaha
