As for the thickness of the oil, I stay with 0-40 cause even though it can get pretty hot in Virginia, i'll drive this car in the winter. If its a sunny day and no salt on the roads, I don't care how cold it is I'm driving the car. I drove it this past Monday morning where it was a blistering 15 degrees. when I started it in the garage, the oil temp was 34. And that's why i'm afraid to go to a thicker oil. Some have even gone to 15-50. i'm sure where you live, when and how you drive plays a big factor in that. on a side note, I don't know if it was in my head, but the car felt more responsive. I noticed my IAT ranged from 37 to 41 degrees, maybe like a continuous shot of nitrous? hahaha
There have been issues with the 0-40W, especially if you track the car. Prefix/arrow and especially Winkles will steer you away from the 0--40. You are a bit unique, very few will drive the car in the temps you mentioned. The corsas and the new Toyo's have warnings about driving in the cooler temps, they can actually develop small cracks.

What about the Mobil 1 filter that is compatible (I believe the M210)?

Not familiar with the Mobil 1 filter. The SRT filter is designed to handle the higher oil pressure of the Viper. Many filters will just go into bypass with higher oil pressure. This means you are essentially not filtering the oil at all. I would stick with the SRT filter. Cheap insurance.

Never understand why people have to reinvent the wheel. Use the filter designed for the car.

As ViperJon has stated...there is a Viper specific oil filter designed in conjunction with SRT engineers. Part number is 05038041AA ...which fits 2008-2010 and 2013-2017 Vipers

In some online catalogs, one needs to drop the beginning "0" of the part number.

Much more stable oil pressure, at idle it won't go down into the 30's. And a quieter valve train.

What kind of issues happened with the 0-40W? I have about 10 track days with 0-40W and haven't seen an issue. I am not stating this as a counter argument, more of an investigation on what I should watch out for. (I usually have videos of all events and keep track of simple data like oil pressure\temp and coolant temp. )

Seeing the cold weather comments, reminded me of this day:

Yup I tracked on 0-40W Amsoil Signature Series @ laguna seca, did all 5 20-minute sessions. I did not drive as hard as Darius, the highest the oil temps got was around 225F.

I do not think it is debatable, It is well documented, the 0/40 has been identified with low oil pressue on warm track days. Steve M had a lot of good info in the oil thread I am pretty sure if you call Arrow they will tell you 20/50 if you track.

I live in Texas and it gets hot as hell here. What are the 2 differences you will see/feel?

    Thanks

Agree with Mobil 1 15W-50 for track use and in HOT weather areas. This has been used quite successfully in Vipers for many years. As I recall, the red oil cap on the ACR X says Mobil 1 15W-50.

This oil holds up well, has excellent zinc and phosphorus levels, and is cheap in 5 quart jugs.

Go easy on startup in cool weather...not pulling full power until oil fully warm.
