Driving a viper long distance

When I purchased mine, I drove it 442 miles (from dealership to my home) and had a blast! If you do not mind the miles on your car, I highly recommend it!

Last May I drove my 2014 GTS to Florida and back which took 5 days each way. I had some 11 hour days of driving and those seats worked well for me and I was ready to go the next day for more of same. I usually drive it as much as the weather allows. So far I have put 23,000 miles on it since January 2016. Go for it!

I have driven my Gen 3 to Florida from Michigan twice. It is now permanently here in Florida to allow some wintertime pleasure.

The drive itself is not bad. About 20 hours of driving if you keep the speed reasonable (which I may not have done all the time). I avoided too much night driving and stayed overnight about midway. You could also get a drive through Tail of the Dragon on the way.

I drove mine from OH to New Orleans and it was a blast. I'm assuming that youre talking about driving to NVE 4 next year. One of the best "perks" of doing a caravan to a NVE is the fact the you are driving with a bunch of other Vipers! When I did New Orleans, There were probably 40+ cars in our group. It's an amazing site to see. The Western Reserve is trying to work out some details for a caravan to FL for next year. Stay tuned...

Outside of the shitty roads in Ohio, the last time I drove from Georgia to Detroit in my 17 was a blast! A few years ago I purchased an 08 out of Indiana and flew up and drove it home, that was a great trip as well. I've made several Georgia to Florida trips in my cars and Georgia to North Carolina trips as well, each one has been different, great weather and awful weather, but each was a great trip so enjoy your car and clean it back up after you get to where you're going and cherish the memories!

bought my viper from woodhouse, flew out from NJ and drove home. drove from NJ to south florida and back 3 times.. id do it again in a heartbeat.

I used a bra, but only the fascia part. Only in dry weather though. In rain it will make it worse. There are alternatives for temp coatings as well.

As for the comment about Ohio roads being poor you have no idea. Leaving Michigan is like leaving the Middle East. Ohio roads were like perfect in comparison.

.............and I am Plum Crazy too, as I drove back from Salt Lake City to Blair, America years back , and was in fine feather. Even with my bad back ( no issues) and no radio ( Viper is a hardcore ) the trip was a joy --plus I got 26 mpg , go figure?

Lastly, I am proud to announce I did not suffer hemorrhoids, jock itch , or any other ailments , likely to crop up if you read any over blown magazine reviews. I did have to put up with tons of stares , pictures, questions, and one flashing from a pert young lady, so why not drive the distance???

I think Vipers are actually a superb highway cruising machine. With that said, pray on no rain. I hate how the Viper drives in rain unless on new michelin's. Good luck, enjoy it!

Do it. I took my Gen IV coupe from Minneapolis to New Orleans and back for NVE2. Then I did the same for NVE3 from Minneapolis to Las Vegas and back. Like Creatre said above, these cars are great highway cruisers.

I've done multiple 800-1,000 mile round trips in Gen 2 cars. Very fulfilling experience. Helps you become one with your car. I would have no reservations unless I knew the weather was going to be crap. Snow would be an absolute no, rain would be grudgingly ok knowing I would have to spend a couple of days rolling around underneath the car to clean up the frame and underbody.

You have to stop and buy a state-themed shot glass or trucker's cap in every state you visit.

Viper seats are plush/comfy, so no issues with long drives (in my opinion).

No issues with driving long distances other than your ears... LOL! I take mine every year on a weekend rally that's about 1500mi of some pretty "spirited" driving and it's great. Seats in the Gen3/4 are great and surprisingly comfy. And if it's driving a new car home, it'll be even more fun.

Only advise is either put a bra, or painters tape on the front of the car while driving to keep chips to a minimum... And if you get caught in unexpected rain or snow don't push it, pull over and wait it out especially depending on the tires on the car and their age/wear.

Nice! The best trip with my Viper was the drive home from Oklahoma after buying it...it was a freakishly warm New Year's Eve that year. Ended up ringing in the new year somewhere in Illinois/Indiana, and got home around 5:00AM. I think it snowed a couple days later.

RI to TX - top down all the way, 2 day trip.
TX to OH to NYC to TX in 7 days.
TX to VA to Keys, FL to New Orleans to TX.

Would make every one of those trips again.
