Looking at buying one shortly. Wondering difference between gen 1 and gen 2. Looking to build the engine and make decent N/A hp. Wondering if gen1 is a decent application for that or if gen 2 is the better platform.

When I had my Gen1, I Did headers, T&D rocker arms, 708 cam, Greg Good heads, Gen2 injectors, larger throttlebodies = 500rwhp. One disadvantage of the Gen1 is it has the OBD1 ECM which makes it more difficult to tune than the Gen2 with the OBD2.
I have a beautifully ported set of Gen 1 heads for sale if you go that route. PM me.

Gen1: Side Exhausts, selected colors, 17 inch 3 spoke wheels, Pre-historic overall.
Gen2: Rear Exhausts, more colors, 18 inch 5 spoke wheels, vented hood, airbag + other things like windows etc.
ABS started in 2001 in newer GEN IIs.
Vented hood with NACA duct as mentioned before.
More HP in GEN IIs.
Power windows started in 1997 (RT/10), 1996 (GTS).
Power side mirrors started in 1999.
