Wow...I just read through that whole thing. I am very tempted to go in there and call LG out. I understand that he is skeptical about Porsche and other cars...but to throw the Viper in there is ridiculous. Everyone here (well mostly everyone) knows that the two ACR-E's that were sent over was a privately funded event. Heck the cars were donated by a dealership...not from Dodge. No special factory performance additions there! The cars had roll cages...that's it. Without those cages, that 7:01 could have been 6.xx...but I digress. It is also comical that he would try and pass off his C7Z as being production status when it is heavily modded and 250HP more than stock. WTF?I know he has been a great ambassador to the Corvette world...and I love Corvette's and have owned many...but his arrogance and defensiveness about the Viper and his heavily modded Z is that of a child.
He should take Trackaire's advice and start a funding campaign early, then try and go back in April for a private event. He just needs to know that nobody on this planet will count his Z's time as a production lap.
Having said all of that, I would donate to the cause because I love the C7Z and LG is a staple in the Corvette world. He just needs to tone down his bashing of the Viper because he doesn't know the whole story of how it got over there and ran its time...

I was pretty surprised when I suggested a go fund me type campaign that it was pretty much blown off....and that it needed to be done months before he went to the Ring. IIRC, I mentioned that even if that shyster Rob from Super Speeders did come through with shipping and private Ring time, it would still be very expensive regardless while staying in Germany. And that was assuming that nothing major went go wrong.
I would donate regardless if it was a private Viper, Corvette, Mustang or Camaro attempt......I find it very entertaining to follow the attempt and love learning from their trials and tribulations. A great Ring time would just be an added bonus.
Obviously I failed at conveying the importance of a go fund me campaign to the Corvette forum or Lou.
Completely agree! Heck even with the 150K for the Viper event, the costs still ran over. Granted, there were unforeseen problems. However, you have to plan for every possible outcome...even the negative ones. Now I'm sure that cost would be less since Lou is not hiring drivers...but still. If you want a private track rental on the ring, bring 100K for ALL expenses. After rental and shipping costs...that should leave you with 25K left over just in case. Don't assume someone can "hook you up" with anything. Money talks...have that money in your bank account before committing. I would bet that, with the following LG has over there, they could raise a good chunk of cash for another attempt in April. Also, I believe a private track rental is much more relaxed on the decibel levels.
I don't mean to be disrespectful to most Corvette owners, but from what I've seen they are a little bit on the "frugal" side if you know what I mean. I don't think they would have raised more than the Viper nation....even though they have a huge Vette population by comparison.
From what I could gather, vehicle freight and track time were to be taken care of for winning the USA portion of the event. I figured if they could raise between $75k and $100k, that would be a good buffer for added people to fly over, hotel rooms, food, car issues while there, beer parties, entertainment from beautiful young Fraulein's, etc.....you know, just the basics to keep a guy happy and focused![]()
