My 98 rt/10 radio is not working. I obtained a replacement radio and having the same problem. This is the problem that I am having ------- I turn it on and get a second or two of radio sound, or c.d. sound, and then static, and then a second or two of radio sound or c.d. sound and then static, and that's the problem. Anyone have a thought on what is wrong, and what the fix is. It cannot be the radio.

Does it do it with the engine off and the key turned to accessory?

Also, is stereo completely stock or any "upgrades"? ;-)
I would check amp and cabling next. Sound almost like a protection kicking in... could be triggered by some damaged wires somewhere... But that's only a guess, of course...

I have a 98 GTS and I was having a similar problem with the CD �� player when my car had a moisture problem. After some helpful advice especially from Dave 6666 my radio problem stopped. My issue was from my HVAC system. I wish you all the best
