Common interior rattles and buzzing sound causes

I’ve got two buzzing sounds emulating from the center console or center dash that a irritating.

I know the car is a Dodge and not a Mercedes etc.

But if you have fixed a buzzing noise in your GenV console and can elaborate, maybe it will help me pinpoint the noise in mine.

At least I can drown it out with the stereo, or by putting the windows down.

    Thanks

FWIW, the last (2) MB I leased my wife, (15’ ML and now 18’ GLE) they both have rattles and creaks. The being said, the only rattles I’ve had in my Gen5 were the exterior scoops behind the windows, and the passenger side door panel once in a while. Good luck finding the noise they can certainly drive you nuts.

This. The last two Mercedes I've bought are both basically lemons. My 2014 S63 had a noise in a door panel for the entire time I've had it, they could never fix it among other problems. I've had less rattles in my Gen 5's. My wifes 2018 E63 wagon is an absolute lemon, been in the shop 50 days in it's first three months, but in Arizona if you lease a car there is no lemon law and Mercedes refuses to buy it back.

My door panel rattle ended up being the plastic clip-in cover behind the door lever release. Easy fix in my case.

Have a GL and and E and they are whisper quiet with absolutely no rattles. My viper rattles, but is infinitely more awsome then both my current MBs and my past MBs. Go drive an avalanche if you want to know what a rattle trap is! Best advise I can give on rattles are pin point general areas and break out double sided tape or a dynamite material. I cannot stand rattles on DDs and I used to do big stereos when I was younger, so I have hunted these things before. Perseverance my friend as you may need to try and try again.

Edit: don’t use dynamite use dynamat.

Can't rattle if it doesn't exist

Got a good chuckle out of this. Cheers!!

Back from my days working on cars, the very first thing I would do when a customer complained about a rattle was to remove absolutely everything of theirs from the interior. There's not a lot of places to hide things in a Gen V, but my garage door opener inside my glovebox makes a rattle if it's sitting juuuuust right. My passenger door panel also squeaks when there's a passenger who leans on it. I bet it's from shoddy reassembly during my door handle recall.

The seats also squeak a little bit if they're all the way back and reclined enough for the seatback to contact the bulkhead. One click forward solves that problem.

A good way to pinpoint things is to drive down a road that you know makes the noise, and have a passenger simply move around the car, putting their hands on things. The dash, the speakers, the vent rings, the bezels, the seatbelts, etc. Don't bother trying that while you drive, as it's way too distracting. Just hold things still and see if it makes a difference.

I also recently found (not on a Viper) the windshield wiper cowl on my mom's car was vibrating against the windscreen. You would swear it was on the inside. My dad had wads of folded paper stuck in every crack. He had a good laugh when I stuck my hand out the window on the highway and held the cowl still. A bit of foam tape solved that...

Good luck, and if you find anything, lettuce know!

I used to have a rattle behind the dash like you described but it went away on its own. It was starting to drive me mad but then it went away. I got lucky.

My door rattles were caused by 1) loose door panel clip (i pulled it out and put some tape around part of the diameter under the head so it was a more snug fit and 2) A broken door panel clip (replaced). I bought a bunch of extra door panel clip/fittings because they break fairly easy and are relatively cheap.

I've got a rattle on my passenger door, which seems to go away if I press on the bezel around the storage cubby, and another one over my left shoulder

The white plastic clips that hold the bottom of the door panel on break easily, especially if the panel has ever been off. My dealer stocks them as I guess they must be used on other vehicles too. My panel was rattling and it was broken clips. Viper Tech replaced them and rattle is now gone.

I have the ARR-Extremes and it has lots of rattles from the doors (driver and passenger), rear hatch and other bits and pieces inside the car. I have given up on finding the source and will just live with it.

On a side note, I drove the car yesterday and it was in the high 30's and I could not believe how much cold air was leaking into the cabin! Basically had to run the heater a 76 and above to keep myself warm! It did surprise me as to how well the Kumho's gripped in the cold.

I refer to my Viper as a rattle-snake, because with the exhaust drone, everything rattles and shakes I just came to accept it and turn up the music since I cannot seem to pinpoint the source of any of the rattles and ive tried alot. Youre not alone!

I can't do that either as this here genius ordered it with the lightened stereo, so only three little horrible speakers :-)

    BUT I LOVE IT...................

One of mine is the grill on the small center speaker on the dash. If I touch it, it stops.

I swear mine is coming from that area, but I can't pinpoint it. Maybe also in the shifter area, according to my wife who has tried to help by touching everything as I drive.

if not the speaker grille as mentioned above, I have my money on your rear view mirror.

My rattle was from the button on the parking brake handle. you won't think that something so small could make so much noise.

Dealer replaced it but they did have to take half the interior apart to do so.

I've also just noticed a distinct creaking noise when taking off slowly from a stop, seems to be coming from somewhere between the seats.

It seems that every time I went to a track day, I will have more rattles in the car...I have located rattles from the center grille, both door panels, and glove box. After last track weekend, my car now also has rattle from the rear end especially when I drive over some bump. Dealer helped me to change the door panel clips but it did not help...I guess I will just live with it

Both of my windows rattle when down partially only. I've had the clips on both side replaced that hold the window. They WERE rattling even when the windows were up. Now it's only when they're down some. I don't know if I want to open up both doors to check it out or be bothered taking it to the dealer for repairs.

I also notice my rear hatch seems to be creaking. I did install the bigger pop up pins. I guess that's the cause? Also same as above, I don't feel like taking it to the dealer.

My windows rattle when partially down
    Emergency brake button rattles
Center vent on top of dash rattles
Seats make noise of back to far and touch the bulkhead

One day I may fix these but for now I just drive

My entire car rattles everywhere, ARH Exhaust drowns it out.

ThinknI may have found one of the culprits of my center dash buzzing. It wasn’t that, it has to do with the mirror and the wires and the compartment up there. I’ve been fiddle farting with it, and can sometimes quiet it, But it doesn’t last. It might be in the mirror itself, not sure.

I do have another rattle on the passenger side, cannot pinpoint that one yet.

I have a variety of rattles...

    1) Driver Door Panel - going to add some more padding

    2) Passenger Door Panel - going to add some more padding

    3) Center counsel - it was coming from the parking brake push button... I put a little piece of silly putty around the bottom and it stopped

Door panel rattle is commonly due to window bosses falling apart. Upgrade to DSE window bosses if you haven't already and add the window regulator reinforcement kit while you're in there.
