Buying a GEN V from Cole CDJR (NOT)

Newport Viper posted a great deal he found on a 2013 GTS at Cole CDJR in San Luis Obispo,CA. Such a good deal I made arrangements to go and pick it up. Which I had to do because they wouldn't ship it to me. First clue as to what was to come.

Did all paperwork and contacted Reliable in LA for shipment. They would hold at their facility for shipment in a week or so.

So on Sunday,one hour before my arrival the sales people decide to get the car ready. Not to mention,days earlier,I knew the battery was dead and suggested a new one be installed so there wouldn't be a problem leaving it at the transporter. Well screw that let's just jump start it before the customer gets here. Wiping out the electronics to the radio/navagation. Viper tech is called in. He can't reboot or reflash. Power is going to the unit but it is dead. I am not too confident in making a 3 hr drive back to LA with a car that may have other problems. I suggest splitting the cost to flatbed it to Reliable and after much discussion the answer was no. They opt to try and fix it on Monday.

Monday comes and the Viper tech reminds them he is still on vacation for another week. Just as well they can't get the parts for another 3 days. I bring up the flatbead option again. I really don't want them working on it at this point. No again.

These people have no idea how to sell Vipers or any car for that matter. Stay far away.

I am pretty sure the owner doesn't know the car was sold and these guy's screwed it up. I haven't been able to reach him and he certainly hasn't contacted me.

We're fortunate here in NorCal to have a top dealer, Normandin in San Jose. Paul Normandin (owner) is a long time Mopar guy, owns a Cuda, a Viper, is a VOA member and is an active racer. He just competed in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in a Panoz. Best of all, the sales experience and delivery were exceptional. I also had the car serviced recently by their Viper tech, another exceptional job. I don't know if Paul can match the deal that you got, but it's worth giving him a shout. Unlike others in the area, he sells his Vipers so he only has 2014s, including an Orange TA, a Billet Silver SRT with Carbon Aero and Carbon Exterior, and he's got an Anodized Carbon on the way. Or of course there's Bill at Woodhouse or John Gastman at Roanoke if you want to ship.

At 34K off sticker the deal was great. I guess I could have paid to flatbed it the 200 miles since I was there. It became more about principal and respect for me as a customer. They viewed me buying the car from them as a problem instead of a solution. The fact that I flew 3000 miles made them think they could treat me anyway they wanted. Too much drama for a car.

I think it may be best for SRT to just let the big name dealers (Woodhouse, BJs, etc) sell the cars. There is no value to letting these ass-hat dealerships even touch the cars. Also, another option would be to get reputable used car dealers to sell them. At least they know the logistics of the cars, take good pictures, and know how to do business even though they can't service them officially.

Sorry for your bad luck. I suggest you cut your loses and move on. I'm sure you'll find another car in the range and if not the piece of mind and paying a bit more may be worth it.

To be clear they still have the car. I walked. They couldn't see that paying half for the flatbed would have cost them less than paying another month of floor plan while they waited to fix it. Much less getting another buyer who would pay CA 8% sales tax instead of 6%in FL. The fact they are in BFE and aren't willing to ship the car at any price really limits their market even with the low price.

RAY!!! CALL SCOTT RICE at Arrigo Dodge in West Palm Beach!!!! I bought mine from him, and they WANT to SELL you a car!! They will knock serious coin off of the MSRP and they have about 12 on the lot to choose from!!!! I had nothing but a great experience with them!!!

Would not buy from Arrigo they do not honer advertised prices. If you are looking for a deal call mountain view great to deal with and have 9 or 10 vipers also. Will not send anyone to Arrigo and I live in south Florida.

There is someone flying in from GA for the SLO car... My buddy called on that car last week and was told that someone had flown in from FL. Didn't take the car, and now there is a buyer from GA coming in.

I'm only 2 hrs south of SLO... Too bad I didn't know you needed transport for Reliable. I totally would have helped you with that...

I can't speak to them honoring advertised prices or not.. However, If you walk in and offer $110K cash to the General Sales Manager on a new 2014 loaded GTS (sticker was 136,500 I believe), then they will take it. Oh, and this was 7 weeks ago. I'm pretty sure they'd take even less now.....

The Viper Salesperson (Scott Rice, who was then immediately introduced to me) and the Service Department have been nothing short of phenomenal since I drove the car home.

I tried to work a deal with them for months they say they would match other advertised prices and they would not the trade offers they offered me were ridiculous. Not the first new viper I have purchased either. I will not buy from them in the future they also have a bad reputation with the south Florida club for sales and service. Reason they are still sitting on so many cars. Im going to start a thread soon about the dealership. Also the owner I have left numerous messages for that he never returned. Not the way to do sell vipers.

Thank you, but I have talked to Scott many times. They do not honor their advertised prices and they do not meet or beat any internet price as they claim. I showed him the ad for the GTS in CA. I offered 8K over the CA dealers price on the exact same 2013 GTS they are sitting on as well as 19 other Vipers. He said he would see what he could do. Never counter-offered or even called or e-mailed back.

I will continue to wait. Time and the deals are on my side.
