Will I get 40k miles on Pilot Sport PS2 s like I did with my 2000 GTS OE Michelins

The OE tire I think was a Pilot Sport. I believe the tread wear was also 220 but those tires would not die, even with 2 Viper Days events.

I also like the fact that the PS2's recommend a 10-11" wheel for their 295/30r18's which would be most welcome.

My main use is touring although I lay into it a lot when I can.

Back in the day I'd get hell for saying this. Yes you can! "Will you" is whole other story.

Hey, as long as it is possible, then I'm glad to hear that is a yes. BTW the Rival S's have a 200 - will they get super mileage? (which makes no sense given they are a DOT track tire.)

The big problem has been tire failure on long trips. And now with the laws that you have to replace both, a ruined tire is quite the expense, especially with the logistics of keeping the good one to sell off on Craigslist.

I'm 65 years old and while still full of piss and vinegar, but after notoriously street racing a sleeper factory supercharged Studebaker Lark, well, there is nothing that can compare to that. So I'm pretty easy on tires these days.

But I use all my HP on on-ramps and passing large numbers of cars on mountain roads at high altitude. The HP loss from 4000 through 8000 ft altitude is awful so you need something at least 500 rwhp to deal with ordinary traffic.

No , you have a treadwear rating of only 180, and they are stickier than the old Cups. If you get 20K you might set a Guinness Book of Records, imho. Actually was thinking you were asking about Cups , but anymore not sure there are any Michelins out there that fit?

So I guess the "5/32nds Crowd" is taking over.

I wonder if Vintage Michelin will reissue any of the OE 2000 tires? (They were "Pilot Sport", right?)

    Hey, PS2 is 220: https://www.monro.com/datasheets/Mic...-Sport-PS2.pdf

Please tell us when you "fly off" due to bad bald (insert here...) tires...Yes? OK?

I have seen 16-18 years old tires on Vipers at meetings over the last 2 decades, so I don't wonder any more.

Caring about how many miles you get on a set of tires? lol, why? You sound like a very boring driver.

I never had a problem with PS's at Viper days. Why should I settle for less?

Tires harden over time, they have a best before date...~5 years depending on the performance classification and storage method. It isn’t clever to run a high hp performance car beyond 5 years on performance tires.

I drive about 10k a year. If I drive to FL (from PA) that is an extra 3-4k for that trip. I'm not going to pop for a set of tires every year.

The tamer you drive the more miles you will get.

When I say 40k, I mean 100% with no funny business.

I had a set of 175/70r12 A008's on a mere Geo Metro and got 8k out of them. But I can drive that car hard around populated areas - not so with the Viper. Friend has one of those 505 hp Corvettes w/5/32nds tires and he got 9k out of a set and NO track days.

But the PS2 and the PS both have 220 treadwears. But I'm hearing the PS2 will NOT last as long as PS? I also know treadwears can be lower than what the tire actually tests out at. So the 220 should never get 40k. And then there are 400tw tires that Pepboys sell that do about 10k.

    Arghhhhh

ps2 did not last me as long as the PS. and to get that many miles, they will probably be pretty old and hard

Awesome to put 10K miles per year on your Viper! Many Viper owners buy tires every 4-5 years and only get to enjoy 5-10 thousand miles over that time :-)

If you're doing 10k miles of highway cruising, you may be an anomaly on tread wear also. The wear is going to depend on a lot of factors, and ultimately how willing are you to drive near-bald with a chance of rain on your trip? You won't 'cord' them without real track use, but probably won't be happy in any amount of rain beyond 25k miles.

I did put 16k on PS's on my new 2000 GTS back in the day (that was one year's worth including 2 Viper Days) and didn't notice any rain issues. The tread was about 1/4in not even close to considering new tires.

Just found that the current PS2 has 10/32nds tread which sure sounds like a "high mileage" tire...

PLUMCRAZY: About how many miles on the PS and PS2's?

Tire-age is the limiting factor for me....My 5,000 mile tires are past due for a new set of PS2s.
