    Carbon owners take heed

When I got my car, I installed the Sunteck film. I am now regretting that decision. There was an area of film that I was going to replace, and upon doing so, I learned that there is a definitive difference in the paint where the film was. The car is always parked inside, so I don’t know if it’s adhesive residue that remained behind that I can’t feel, or if it’s the result of the clear not being able to breathe. None of my matte paint cleaners have been effective at removing those lines. So my only two options would be to have the film replaced; following the exact same lines, or to send the car to Prefix, tear the car down and have it completely repainted. Fortunately, I already have an appointment with them for other paint work. It leaves next month.

I don’t know if the 3M film would create the same visual, but either way, if you own a carbon edition, and are contemplating installing film, I would test in an inconspicuous area first.

WOW, disappointed to hear that. Sorry for your loss.

How much for the paint job?

Have you asked a high end Detailer to look at the car to see if it’s something they can correct? I would try just about anything before having the car painted.

    +1,000,000

I'd do this in a heartbeat. I would venture to bet that they can take care of it too. $1,500 for a paint correction detail will be nothing compared to a full factory repaint.

This is matte, so I really don't think that any of the traditional correction efforts would apply. Regardless, I was already planning on sending it to Prefix for some other issues. I now have another reason. It's not all bad. At the end of the day I get a new factory paint job.

I just wanted those that either had film, or were looking at having it installed to be aware.

It's pricey. But it's Prefix, and therefore factory. I am almost positive that the dealer that I purchased it from laid wax on it and some point in time prior to me buying it.

I know for a fact alot of cars get the "special" wax that they sell as an upcharge later when you hit finiance.

Did you try a little 3M adhesive remover with a soft cloth? Shouldn't hurt the paint and then you would know if it was just residual adhesive.

A giveaway was the dried up compound behind one of my side carbon pieces.

I would personally give it a few months. I say this from experience with this same issue. I had a 3M clear bra put on my red GTO in 06. Wasn't happy with it so pulled it off after about 2 months. I panicked when I saw a definite line where the seem was. Tried everything known to man to get rid of if it to no avail. A little over a month later I noticed the line finally went away. It was stored outside. Not sure what it was, but it did go away by itself. I know it is diff paint, but I would wait a few months before doing anything drastic like a repaint. That will show up on a carfax btw, even from mfg. My wife's Benz was completely torn down and was fully resprayed by MB due to a paint issue.
    Good luck,
    Troy

I toured the facility last year, its AMAZING. They are the best for a reason, I am willing to bet your new paintjob will be better than factory. They guy that took us on the tour said they are capable of much better than what dodge paid for!

This is not a warranty issue, but even if it were, I think most Viper enthusiasts would still consider a repaint scenario from Prefix, as "factory paint"

1.) That is a lot more noticeable than I had imagined...
2.) That color is absolutely gorgeous.

    agreed..

after seeing your picture i agree it might be a good idea to give it a few months.. UV exposure could quicky burn off any diffrence.

It very well could, but again, it was going to Prefix anyway. I just want other carbon owners to be aware. Once I get it back from Prefix, I will not be putting anything else back on.

Line or not, that is a beautiful color and finish. I've never seen one in person.

So you're not going to put Any Protection on the front end at all?

the aero on these cars keeps the front end looking quite nice.. even daily driving.. even without a wrap

Maybe so, but where I live I hate to say it but I don't think the aero is going to help when you have Dump trucks or Wood haulers passing you everyday on the road!

With bras, the real rule should be, wrap the entire vehicle, every square inch or don't wrap at all. I never wrap any of my vehicles. I'll take stone chips over "the line" which has been the after math I have seen on every vehicle that has had them.

Since you are repainting anyway, you can get aggressive on trying to fix. The joys of matte paint.

Outnumbered you’re awesome for letting everyone here know about a major issue. A lot of people don’t have the balls to admit a mistake they made even if it was unknown to them at the time they made it. I would not put a clear bra on your car the next time and wear any rock chips as a badge of honor!

How long did you have it installed before removal? I had the same hood piece installed on my car about 6 months ago. The rest of the car is also wrapped.
