    Insurance

    Hello All,

I maintain show car insurance on my Viper. I am pondering changing insurance companies. Any recommendations?

I only drive it about 3k or less each year. I would like to have an agreed value policy. I would also like to be able to take the car on weekend trips and not have to worry about whether its kept in a garage or not. I would also like to be able to purchase track insurance from time to time.

Any thoughts are welcome and appreciated.

    Thx

I've got state farm for my cars. One has an agreed value and the other has what they refer to as pleasure driving insurance. On the agreed value, I have to keep full coverage year round. On the pleaseure driving I can drop it down to fire and theft only, when driving season ends. Each car gets 7500 miles a year, not that I would ever come close to that. The track insurance is a different story. I can't think of any big name insurance company that would allow you to buy track insurance from them. I could be wrong though. Most people buy track insurance from a third party and should the worst happen they would go through them. I did that once with one of my cars.

I use Grundy as well. The price is nice, but there are quite a few restrictions. With Grundy, you aren't supposed ever have the car outside overnight unless it is participating in a 'car event'. A weekend trip up the coast does not count as a car event unless there is a car show at the end of the rainbow. So, if you want to take your car to a B&B in Monteray and the car has to stay in the car park overnight, you are not covered. You can ask them to cover this situation but they want several weeks advance notice and a complete itinerary before making a decision.

As for track insurance, Hagerty offers track insurance coverage. The price varies depending on the track and car value.

    I use Travelers. I pay $105 a month for a single-vehicle policy on a pleasure-use garaged vehicle year-round in PA for:

    $50k/$100k bodily injury coverage,
    $50k property damage,
    $50k/$100k uninsured/underinsured motorist,
    $500 collision deductible, and
    $1,000 comprehensive deductible.

Heck, they've already covered a crash on the car too. Travelers doesn't cover track events of course, but there's supplemental insurance for that. They have a limited mileage clause and I've even called them to confess I go way over the mileage every year, but they've not minded. I've been quoted other companies and nobody else can even come close. #customerforlife

My price with Grundy is substantially lower than that. Part of what makes me not put up too much of a fight on the restrictions. At the same time, the restictions are causing me to not use the car as much as I want to. Hagerty seems to have the best price/options based on my intended use. Anyone have anything good/bad to say about Hagerty?

I've had Hagerty for years. Had a claim on a custom viper truck, hit a dog! They were very responsive and paid the claim without issue. I have 2 prowlers, 2 vipers, 2 viper trucks, and a prowler trailer insured through them - all agreed value. 50K each for the prowlers and viper trucks. 10k on the prowler trailer. 50k on 2001 viper, 140k on the 2013. $4900 per year, all-in in PA. $1000 deductibles.

Amica has been really good to me. I have a 5k miles/yr policy for 1k a year with them. They have also paid out on a totaled Supra that BB value was a joke. They agreed, and took the 5 closest Supra's for sale in my state and gave me the average of the asking price on those. This was over a 10k difference in value... For me.. that sold me on them.

Agreed Value policy with American National. No crazy restrictions beyond annual mileage. I want to say it’s around $800/yr with a $500 deductible, but would have to check.

Grundy here. They have no mileage restrictions too just that you cant use the car as a daily and has to be stored inside. Fair enough
