    Cool Future ACR owner

    Hey guys!
Been snooping around a while and finally decided to register and say hello. I have an opportunity to pick up an '01 ACR here locally. I have been wanting this car for almost a year now and getting close to pulling the trigger.
The car is race yellow clearcoat with stripe delete option with about 14k miles on the clock. Has the ROE supercharger with water menthol injection, Belanger headers with high flow cats mated with a Corsa catback. Car also has upgraded Fluidyne radiator, 1.7 roller rockers along with MSD plug wires. New Center Force clutch, MGW shift knob and a few other goodies. It's a 1-owner car and I have known the guy for over 15yrs now. Very good guy and he has taken good care of the car. I actually used to detail the car on a regular basis. It needs tires as it's still sporting the original Michelin Super Sport tires. They have tread but are a little dry and hard.
With that being said he is pretty firm on his asking price of $50k. And of course im here asking what some of you guys think. I have read many many topics and watched about every video on YouTube from maintenence to the quirks and pricing of Vipers.
I think im about ready to pull the trigger so just open to comments and suggestions that you guys could give me.
I do have pics of the car but looks like I need to create a photobucket account to post them up.
I look forward to meeting some of you guys and hopefully becoming a new Viper owner

I forgot to mention the car also has the comfort group package as well. I also have my quotes on the insurance as well of around $60 a month full coverage with 500 deductible. So im pretty excited

I'm sure you'll get many opinions here and there's really no right or wrong. IMO, don't be too concerned about the pricing of the car (within reason). If you pay over today's or tomorrow's market by a bit, it will make zero difference after years of ownership. That being said, the price here seems to include the cost of the mods, which generally is not "transferable" to a second buyer ... at least not for their "retail" value.

The good here is that you are intimately familiar with the car and the owner. And yes, those 17 year old tires are FRIGHTENING! It sort of begs the question to me, as to why the owner never laid out $1.5K+ for a new set, but you'd know best with regard to that.

The first comment that comes to my mind is that the car is rather seriously modified. I had a Roe on my 2001. When all was right, it was wonderful. Add methanol and you've got a lot to stay on top of. Great if you're passionate about the extra HP, but you'll need to stay on top of tuning issues that WILL occur. So if you are "gear headed", then no worries. But if not, consider the time you'll likely need to spend in the garage (or with a local tech).

I too am interested in what others will say here. Best of luck!

Scott is 100% correct -- the tires MUST be replaced , so figure 2K by the time you mount and balance. Also get the car on a lift as ACR shocks are extremely prone to leaking, can not be replaced by the originals , so expect another 4,000 to 5,000 to get this done. Lastly check on the end link boots --- often cracked and by the time you replace , you may spend another 700-800. Keep in mind, beautiful car , but 16 years old and things need reconditioned. Read over Scott's comments as he is spot on concerning the mods.

Thanks Scott and Bill for the replies. As for the tires I too wonder why he didn't throw a set of new rubbers on either? I honestly think he is just not into cars anymore. He also has a few other high end cars in the stable as well so the reasoning behind anything is still unsure. The car I do know was recently tuned as he said it would throw a check engine light occasionally. And it's good to know what you mentioned about the menthol injection Scott. The car is def not driven hard and the modifications done were probably done because the guy used to own a local custom car shop.

The factory Dynamic suspension was replaced with an aftermarket coilover setup which he mentioned but forget what brand he said it was. I will definitely keep in mind what you guys mentioned as the reasoning why im here obviously. Thank you guys so much for your input and I look forward to more commnts and suggestions

I wanted to add: The color matched nitrous bottle is there for looks. Nothing has ever been hooked to it

And he also has ALL the original parts if I wanted to go back to factory specs. Which is probably what I will end up doing.

All that has been said above is very true. That being said, I personally think that is a steal! Especially since u know the history. If it was me I would jump on it. Sounds like the owner has done things right.
    Good luck.

Looks like a really nice, well-cared-for car. Long term ownership counts for a lot in my book when I'm buying an older car. Please double check the date code on those tires. I could be wrong but I don't recall Super Sports being made 16 or 17 years ago. They might not be as old as you think. As for why he hasn't recently replaced them, it could just be that the virtually all of miles on the car are from a few years ago. He might not have driven it recently, hence his decision to sell.

I also agree that you likely need some willingness to deal with the odd issue that stems from the modifications. Some people are fine with that, while others are not. Only you know what type of fellow you are. I suspect that you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it!

I think you meant "Pilot Sports." Supersports are only a 5 or 6 year old Michelin model. If they are SS, you should be good. I would be tempted to yank off the SC and go back to stock or as close as I could get.

Well not chrome from the factory but the factory BBS wheels that have been chromed

Opps, I meant Pilot Sport. The tires the car came with originally. And yes I hope to get some enjoyment out of the car. Of course nothing harsh just maybe a cruise and a little cornering action

Just consider the Roe SC is about $8-9K with all supporting mods and tuning. So taking that into account, you're really getting it for $42K. You will hear people say that mods don't add value, correct to a degree, BUT the Roe is so desirable and easy to install or remove. The owner could easily have removed all the performance parts and pocketed $8-9K, and put up the car for sale at $46K. Maybe get him to buy new tire(because they are dangerous) and give him the $50K.

I'm going to see if he will allow me a little to get me some new tires so we'll see how that goes. I definitely don't want to ride on tires that old. Will be going straight home and put on jack stands

Just hoping my local Discount Tire can get a hold of the Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires. Any recommendations on a really good street tire. I know there are very few matching street tire setups in the Viper sizing
