I'm looking to buy a sports car and came across a 2002 Viper GTS final edition. I read there are about 360 made, but how rare is it and how will that impact the value of the car in the future.

If you're gonna buy a Viper for investment, that Viper is a good choice. They should hold value rather well as they are a numbered car. IF you're gonna buy it for fun, that one is also a good choice
No matter what Viper you buy, they are all 'rare' by car standards. Personally, I would buy a GTS FE if I was in the market and didn't have my ACR.
Let's put it this way. A friend of mine bought the last one. 360/360 2 yrs ago? It only had 200 miles on it. It is not stock any more. He kept the original parts if he ever decides to sell it. After he bought it, he felt bad about driving a piece of automotive history. A few people offered to buy it, but wasn't worth selling. (would've taken a hit on capital gains) He said "screw it". And put a Roe on it!
Honestly, as far a Viper 'special editions' go, the G2 FE cars are one of the highest produced with 360 of them out there. If you're really worried about future values, there are several threads on this forum you can read about it....
Of all the available Gen 2's the 2002 FE is the only one I would want. 360 is not a lot they made 2000 Blue and Whites. They are serial numbered and have other badging a goodies. I would definitely grab one. The red and white is just stunning.
FINAL ED TRIVIA:
360 cars is a HUGE pool in the Viper realm, more cars than the entire first-year of 1992.
Mambas dont really have any added value / Collectibility at 200-per.
Hisssstory Tidbit: WHY 360? And not 250 or 100 or??? Read on:
By early 2002, Dodge Marketing made the mistake of letting the world know that the Gen 3 Viper would be out, CONVERTIBLES only, at 500+ HP. Just like 92-96.5, Verts ONLY.
This 'Premature Revelation' of info made sales of 2002 RT10 verts hit the toilet. Dealers could not GIVE Verts away. In fact, the only way Dodge could DUMP them was in the Asia / Australia market, but those had to be converted to RHD overseas.
[PartsRack bought back most of those take-off conversion parts by the way.]
So, that left open union contracts and supplier contracts for 2002 , on how many COUPES could be sold. Versus closing CAAP! Building at Plant moderate capacity, that magic number was:
360 cars.
So Marketing set about making these 360 SPECIAL. How? STRIPES! DASH PLAQUE! AERO PACKAGE ala GT2 !!!! WHAT, YOU SAY, NO AERO on FEDs? RIGHT YOU ARE! The expense was far too high, and the wing vendors could not produce them fast and cheap enuf. So Aero stayed on the Drawing Board. But a few FED ACRs were built.... noteworthy item.
And since there was NO COUPE til 8/28/2005, those 450HP 2002 coupes all sold, albeit slowly
NOW you know the RESSSSSST of the SSSSTORY

They made only 37 GTS bumble bees (yellow/black stripes) in '02, and 108 in '01. Not sure how it being named a FE with a numbered plaque makes it all that much more desirable in terms of rarity. But what do I know?

Doesn't mean a thing. There are so many "rare" Viper colors and combinations. When ALL are rare....none are rare. For example the Gen IV ACR's had many that were one of four, one of six. 96-97 Blue and Whites are a perfect example. Not rare, made thousands. And still the most desirable Gen 2. Color is everything. If rarity translated into collectability and value the red and yellow McVipers would be priceless.
Thanks JonB! I knew the FE's were built to clean out that body, but I didn't know the advanced G3 marketing had made the '02 G2 vert's sale proof.
And do we know how many FEs are left?
One got written off in Germany so that's 359 left.
The FE's always sell a little better then a standard GTS coupe and about on par with a ACR coupe from 2002. A FE ACR sells for the most of course of all 02 GTS's. We are talking a few K more at this point, will that jump up? Possible, but just buy what you like and what you will enjoy, life is too short to worry about a few $$ of return on a toy. The feeling you will have and fun is more then enough return on your investment.

Reddemon, a great opportunity is at hand for you. # 37 will be in the Mecum Dallas auction. It was originally for sale by the original owner in Wisconsin maybe - I saw it on Autotrader a 15 months ago. An outfit in Florida bought it and have dropped the price $10K since they have had it for 10 months maybe?

"Fees and Taxes:
$599.00 Doc Fee on all Purchases. Out of state buyers are responsible for all state, county, city taxes and fees, as well as title/registration fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered".
I wouldn't buy a lug nut from any dealer with that made up total bullshit doc fee.
