Talk me in or out on this hood

I thought it was an Autoform hood, but after talking to Steve he believes it was a Vipair hood.

I really like the looks of it, and the seller is local to me (45 minutes). Any thoughts on fitment issues? Will it need hood pins since it's so light? Etc.

By no means do I need this hood, but I think it would look really good on my ACR with the red drivers stripe painted on it and the rest left carbon fiber. It is priced right in my opinion, so that's a non-factor for me.

That guy bought the hood for $950, it is a Vipair hood. I would rather get an Autoform. Don't pay anymore than $1200 for it

I'd rather get an Autoform as well, but he didn't make them in Carbon Fiber.

I already offered considerably less than $1200 (when I thought it was an Autoform hood) and he accepted. Then I got cold feet when Steve told me he didn't make it.

....no. Not sure if you're serious or not, but they are completely different.

That hood looks hideous. Buy a factory Gen IV hood.

I have never seen an aftermarket body part fit right without serious work. I would be surprised if the gaps could be tolerable after you put it on.

I have a factory Gen IV hood on my ACR currently. I really like how it looks. Once the stripe was on, from 10 feet it would look just like my hood now...just like my carbon fiber ACR wing.

That's what I was worried about.

It would look like a Gen 3 hood with louvers. The hood scoop and contours match the Gen 3 cars, not the Gen 4. I don't think you'd like it.

My 2 cents....I ordered numerous carbon fiber parts from Vipair Steve back in the day. All turned out to be junk. I returned them all and luckily got a full refund.

For the price, why not try it??

The hood vents on a gen IV were specifically moved forward to be in the best position to take advantage of the low pressure area at that part of the hood. The idea being to evacuate the high pressure air that has passed through the radiator and reduce lift at the front end. As the vents are moved aft you will run into higher pressure zones near the cowl and reduce the efficiency of this whole system while shifting the aero balance of the car. It makes no sense to me to do this on an ACR.

Thank you. I wasn't thinking about the higher pressure towards the cowl, was too focused on the extra vents extracting heat quicker.

I'm going to pass on the hood.

^^^^ This ... A member in Grandbury TX has one on his Gen III vert, looks really good. I believe it's modeled after the Comp Coupe hood? Fitment will likely need adjustment, but I had a CF tonneau cover from Vipair that fit well (hit/miss)

One thought on the hood designs from the G3, comp coups, G4 ACR. The G5 extremes run hood vents very similar to the G4 ACR. If the comp coup/ G3 hood vents were superior you would have thought the G5 extreme would have had them.

    I agree.

I didn't think of it like that. That makes a lot of sense.

The same vender made a Gen 4 hood with a slightly different shape and taller scoop. I obviously painted part of my hood. It will take quite a few coats of clear if you want a gloss finish. The carbon soaks it up.

I know where quite a few CF comp coupe hoods and the CF Gen 4 hoods are but the guy won't sell them...
