Trade 02 GTS for 14 GTS

Thinking about trading my '02 GTS in for a '14 GTS. My '02 is mint, 3rd owner, 14k miles, all books, fobs, window sticker, cover and bag. 1 of 37 yellow with black OEM stripes. It seems that the '14 is just so much more car, power, handling, interior, brakes. Dealer has great reviews, R29 recall was done, checking on the R28 with Dodge tomorrow. I was told that sometimes even though the R28 was completed, it may not post to their site. Here is the link for the car in question.

I don't want to modify my car and even if I spent 25 to 30k doing it, it would probably still fall short of the '14; and then I would have ruined a perfect stock car. I know that the '02 will always have a special feel to it, and I will probably miss that. They are very slowly appreciating even though that doesn't matter to me right now, in the future they may be considered collectible. Your honest thoughts and assessment will be greatly appreciated.

I hope they are giving you $45K on trade in value. The 14 is nice, why not just have both. Buy a lift, stack'em

I don't have the room, kicking out the wife's Benz would probably not go over well.

Couldn't let the 02 GTS go, decided to make it stable mates with the 13 GTS

You will miss the 02 when it’s gone. As nice as the Gen V is, a Gen II is just such a fun car to drive. I would say high $40’s on a trade is pretty realistic. Good luck and keep us posted.

depends in part on what you typically use the car for. Does the Gen2 leave you wanting more comfort for longer trips? is it 'too slow'? (always crazy when talking about Vipers, but everything is relative).

There are a lot of things the Gen5 improves on, and people I know who have gone 2-5 say they don't regret it. Even those who have gone G4-5 don't regret it. But if your use for the car is shorter trips and car shows, it may not be worth it.

I went from a 3 to a 5 and no regrets. Better in every way. As for the R28 and R29, mine had both, and passed R28. I have the paperwork from Corporate to prove it. Yet only R29 shows complete on the dealer system. Don't know why.

Good luck and keep us posted.

3rd owner, 14K miles...keep the '02 GTS since you are evidently just owning it for the stigma of what that Generation/Model holds over everything else out there in the world. IF the car had 80K miles proving it gets driven and has served its purpose well and faithfully and the time has come to upgrade to a 21st century model, then go for the GEN-V. Just my perspective after just finishing a drive with my Yellow striped '01 GTS causing traffic to stop with gawkers and cell phones at every stoplight.

I’ve had the same dilemma as the owner of a Gen 2. Keep both. You will kick yourself if you let it go.

Hopefully you have a wife like I do. She let me kick out her Lincoln MKX to make room for my two snakes.

Go drive it and make your own decision. Hard to get a realistic answer from Viper Owners, since you have found they are quite a passionate lot, ha,ha! I have had all the generations ,except a Gen 1, and I prefer the IV or V over all the others - but the next guy you talk to only loves a Gen II , or is enamored by the bare bones Gen 1 beast , so .....................................decide for yourself and sure you will be happy with whatever decision you make?! Because , everyone is right, the best Viper out there is the one you own!!
