Brake rotors and pads for street

I need to get new rotors and pads for the 98 gts. I have found on-line discussions that essentially state that almost all rotors are cast in China and finished/coated here in the U.S. Some have gone so far to say, that most of the time you are just paying for a name, when it comes to one-piece types. I am looking for a slotted, one-piece rotor and pad setup that produces a minimum of dust, has good street stopping power, and decent wear characteristics. What combo have you guys settled on that doesn't brake the bank and makes you happy? I only street the car. (I am not going to larger rotors, just the OEM size)

I use Stoptech rotors on my F350 and H1. Hawk HPS pads. I would use the same on my Viper if they were prettier.

I use Giro rotors on the Viper and have reds for pads. Reds suck for stopping but since I have 14" brakes F/R it still stops.

The rotors look badass, while the pads are low dust.

Tried EBC green pads for low dust, worked fine for that but breaking power sucked, removed them.

Looks like Stoptech rotors are the choice. I have heard good things about the hawk HPS pads. Thanks for the input, guys.

I use Stoptech Sport rotors with EBC Red pads on streets. Almost no dust and enough stopping power for my kind of driving.

    Endless pads and unknown discs.
Worked OK on track. Had overheating issues as there's no brake cooling on a stock GTS.
Getting the brake cooling done and then will try once more.

If it's 100% street then honestly, why would you even ask? Just get something that doesn't dust as much and still stops the car.
If tracking, go to your local brake specialist and let him decide what you should use. Those guys work with brakes all day long, a Viper forum where one guy here and there may have tried only 2 different combinations and another has only tried one.
Brake specialists has tried hundreds, maybe even thousands of different setups.

I'm in the camp of only 2 tries.
Brakeman 3 (was fitted when I bought the car): absolutely rubbish.
Endless (pads and fluid): great! But lack of cooling caused brake fade.

We don't have brake specialist shops here. We have name brand big box brake shops where teenage punks slap pads and rotors on minivans and work trucks. I wouldn't expect them to have an intelligent response to what RH SAE means. Which of course is the first thing you come across during a brake job.

I'd trust the one guy here more so than any brake shop. They don't know a damn thing about our cars. Their heads would explode in a furry of computer database lookup nightmare just trying to figure out why my Gen 2 has Gen 4 F rotors on all 4 corners. And if I explained it to them they would just argue with me that the computer says.................

    I said specialist, not shop.
There are many people (punks in your words) that think they know and act like they know. I don't know jack shit about brakes, but I'm trying to learn from the expert advice I can get from the local brake specialist who deliver brakes to some of the biggest race teams. Not everybody has that luxury, I know that. But maybe find it in a nearby town or similar. But maybe that won't work either, I don't know your location. But I found it in Sweden so in the US it shouldn't be too difficult.

If you don't have it in town then some town nearby might have.
Or just try it yourself. When happy with a combo, stick to it.
Just saying that it's great to trust the advice if those who has tried hundreds of different combinations rather than those who drive 500km/year and changed brakes once.

I use my car on the street and occasional track days. For street only, Hawk HPS 5.0 are good for street, or EBC's blue pads.

Here's a graph to show the Hawks pads. For track, DTC 30 or better yet DTC 50 what I'd use.

I went with Stoptech slotted rotors. How do the EBC blues compare with the Hawks for dusting--especially with the slotted rotors?

I would bet they all dust up a fair amount. EBC Greens used to be the low dust pad of choice, now I think it's the Red.

    Porterfield R4 S

I have been happy with Porterfield R4S pads.

I used them on my Pantera and found them to stop very well. When I bought an 01 ACR I was amazed at the amount of brake dust, so I bought R4S pads, and the dust problem went away.

They still fade on the track, but that's a cooling problem.

The other recommendations may work as good or better - I can't comment.

Good advice to talk to a brake expert, though. Better yet, call a Viper expert.

You can also get BAER two piece rotors Slotted like I have.

You will need to call BAER, they don't seem to list them on their website but they are available.

Add another on the Stoptech Slotted and Hawk HPS side here.

I did a big brake swap years ago and have only street driven the car. However, I am a "spirited driver" and am hard on brakes. I've also had the car on many mountain roads and have driven the car pretty damn hard and I've yet to have a single episode or even a worry/concern about brake fade. Car stops hard without issue.

    That's what I'd go with.....
