Carbon Fiber Hood Bezel Replacement GTS

I was in the market for replacement hood bezels because one of mine flew off and got ran over on the highway. The local dealership offered OEM replacements for $86 each and I found an OEM replacement on ebay for $49. I decided to splurge and contacted Xtreme Supercars to see if they had any carbon fiber ones for the GTS, it turns out they were in the process of testing a GTS version of the vent when I contacted them. I was fortunate enough to test the product myself. I think the results speak for themselves, I am very please. You can tell the carbon fiber was hand laid when you closely inspect it, however, the imperfections are very minor and do not bother me. I definitely recommend contacting them for this product. It's relatively inexpensive and I don't get the "should there be something in those holes on your hood?" questions anymore from strangers.

I secured these with the recommended tape (3M VHB Heavy Duty Mounting Tape 5952, 0.125" width). After a few hundred miles, the bezels are still holding strong. The tape does loosen up when it gets hot and I may re-mount the bezels with silicone.

*Please ignore my imperfect PPF/paint quality. I did a 2-step correction and applied a ceramic coating since these picture were taken and now it has a mirror finish.

They look great! For the tape, did you mean 1.25" width? .125" seems might thin.

Anything wider and there would be overlap top or underside and trimming the tape is painful.

Good to know as I just placed my order with XS. Thanks!

I used .125" it is thin but some spots required that while other sports required two+ layers. Since it was thin, I was able to add more in the places that required it.

Thanks SLP. Mind if I ask where you were able to locate a roll with your exact dimensions, SLP? I can’t find that dimension on the 3m site, nor amazon or unline. Thanks again!

When installed on the SRT hood it took 2-3 layers of stacked tape to get the right height if I recall.

Try emailing Laurelle at xtremesupercarsinc@gmail.com Although, I heard that they are shutting down until late August as well. I believe today was their last day. Maybe you could ask her if she still has some parts kicking around on the shelf that she could ship out or if you could be placed on a purchase list for when they reopen?

Here's another picture with more natural lighting by the way.0.jpg

Thank you! I don’t know how I couldn’t find this on my own Amazon search. I owe you one.

On the topic of how I ordered this: I’d been in contact with them for months, checking in frequently on their test progress. I lucked out that on today’s inquiry they were able to/kind enough to allow me to purchase a pre-test. I think SLP and I are beta testers of sorts.

I used what Doug used above- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and they held on hitting low 160's at COTA. I used two rows of it on most parts of the bezel. Be prepared to have you wife come out and help you get the back side off with her fingernails. LOL

are there any bezels/covers that dont have the cheap look of the OEM ones? Something more open with better venting

They look nice but I'm confused. Why would they not make them snap in place like the stock ones? And no center insert?

A couple of reasons. 1. The interior opening would have to be smaller to have enough material to create a clip connecting area that wouldn't fail on installation. 2. The cost of a multi dimensional mold would drive the cost clear out of sight. 3. A smaller opening (to facilitate the clip) defeats the purpose and would look much less attractive.

Are these just for looks or will the opened vents helps on cooling the engine bay or more aerodynamic or any other benefits?

They will improve both a marginal amount.

Never thought of that before. So you guys recommend removing those vents for 1/4mile and 1/2 mile events.

I received mine but they did not fit. I’m still awaiting a new set (they had to do something with the mold). No new ETA yet, but it has been a couple of months.

I have 2014 GTS and my oem passenger side flew off on the hwy around 140-160mph... I considered getting the carbon fiber bezel but I didn't like the look of just the outside trim without a grill. In my opinion the opening left open is too large and looks incomplete not to mention showcasing not so much eye appealing parts of the engine (rubber hoses etc) I ended going getting another OEM bezel I had both hydro dipped with carbon fiber graphic. Once I installed them I put tiny bit of black silicone epoxy on the inside of the clips to secure them in place I never had any issues since and I have gone above 160mph... If I ever needed to remove them I would just grab a razor and cut away the silicone off the plasic tabs.

What type of shop does Hydro dipping? What is it? I've never heard of it. Is it durable?

Hydro dipping, previously known as water transfer printing, is a method of applying printed graphics to three dimensional objects. It's kind of like a decal, except it adheres to difficult to reach areas. The part is typically primed first, then hydro dipped, then clear. Subject to chipping just like paint.
