    Car cover makes car dustier

Looking for some simple advice here: have a 96gts I bought about a year ago and it came with the(I think) factory car cover in seemingly good condition. With the cover being new to me- and maybe me being a little too ocd when it comes to my cars- I put it on a gentle wash cycle(no detergent/softener) and let air dry before putting on my beloved viper. Anyway, when I go to take the cover off, a thick layer of blue dust(cover is blue) is covering the car! I take the cover in the yard to shake off, and there what seems to be endless blue dust coming off! Any ideas on how to fix this? Want to cover the car and really would like to do so without having to buy a new cover!

Alternatively: can anyone recommend a solid indoor car cover for <~$100?

    Thanks all for any help!!

Sounds to me like the typical deterioration of a synthetic car cover due to UV exposure that I have experienced with several covers I have used outside. Time to replace it.

Sometimes the static of putting them on and off will adhere dust to ur baby as u pull the cover off. Kind of a pain, but my solution has been to use a California Duster. Takes less than 2 mins and ur good as new. Beats getting a scratch or dent instead!
I have found over the years that a good cover is worth its weight in gold. A sub $100 cover really doesn't do anything at all. Well, maybe as a placebo.

Wash it with woolite in cold water and tumble dry on cold temp for 30 minutes or so before taking it out. That worked wonders for me.

...then I guess I shouldn’t ask my other question: has anyone else noticed a decline in the quality of caviar lately?!?!

Thanks for the suggestion- I’ll give that a shot!

I'm super picky about my toys, I quit using typical car covers for reasons like your talking about. I took two king-size all cotton sheets and had them sewed together, they work great as a car cover. All cotton leaves no lint film and will not scratch or trap moisture under them plus they are very easy to wash.

It's good to cover if in a trailer going across the country. In the garage I covered it once and then never did again. And yes, first world problems

Believe it or not, many car cover manufacturers suggest using only Fantastic in the wash with your cover. I've always done that and my covers last 4 ever.

I wouldn't say useless. The thicker, more expensive ones are a great barrier against items being dropped onto the car while in the garage where kids roam and wife does laundry. Mine also protects from stray critters that find their way into the garage. Dust, I aint so terrified of. I use my California duster when I take the cover off.
But, to each his own obviously.
